Very true; thank you for adding that most important comment. I would strongly suggest that anyone deciding to arm himself/herself learn how to safely handle their gun, become accurate with it, and become comfortable with carrying it.

The problem when such a high proportion of the population are armed is that those who are not comfortable handling firearms are even more vulnerable

Half is a start
I think all law-abiding citizens should be armed. It is, of course, a personal choice. But just that, a choice, not a mandate from government.

I like when perpetrators become victims ... but I don't think having half the populace armed is the answer to crime. I think we actually have too many guns out there--not too few.
