Interesting Trivia!
I think that the "a" makes what Armstrong said even more profound than the way I've always heard it to be.
Of course, I actually heard him say it--but the radio communication from space had this kind of garbled sound at the time, so I didn't catch it, either.
And the news people repeated what he said without the "a."
