the best
diet I've ever been on is what I call, the "do not diet," I just do not eat sweets, fried food or junk....like donuts (the worst of the do not foods).

low carbs
I appreciate your reinforcement of my hunch that the whole low-carb thing was based on faulty thinking. Every once in a while you'll see a nutritionist on TV who'll say, "it's calories in and calories burned, and that's it."
I have a disability which prevents exercise, so I am overweight and have been slooooooooooooooowly losing weight for a few years now. I seriously think I'm losing about 5 lbs. a year. I don't weigh myself, but I can tell by clothes and by how it feels when I move around. I mention this because I've done this strictly by guesstimating calorie intake. There was a period when I would occasionally eat a pint of Haagen Daz for lunch & dinner -- and if that's all you eat, it is only about 1200 calories!
Obviously, I am not recommending "the Haagen Daz" diet, and I do try to get more "good" foods. Still, I really think it is a matter of paying attention, rather a magical theory of one sort or another.
