Wow! Who knew there'd be someone here who'd understand what I mean!
Although, I think that for me it's slightly different since I have lived here almost all my life. It's like a weird Twilight Zone. I get treated one way when locals first meet me, then I get treated totally differently when they find out that I, too, am a local!
I guess that's why I treat everyone I meet the same way whether they're local or not.
You know . . . even one of my current best friends used to hate my guts just because her dad told her haoles were bad people. That is . . . until she got to know me in 9th grade. Then we became the best of friends.

I experienced it a lot, that discrimination, when we were stationed in Kaneohe Bay. It made life really hard
