I don't think there's a strong correlation between good blogs and lots of comments. Some bloggers don't blog often--as a result, they get few comments. But those few blogs are very good ones. Conversely, some popular bloggers have a following, if you will. They've acquired it from blogging consistently and for a fairly long time; and they've acquired it because their blogs tend to be good. But if you compare their blogs to a lesser-read blogger, you might find the latter's posts are actually better.
