Whim, I think it both does go against good reporting and yet it also strangely enhances it. One of the reasons is simply that the best news stories are those that force the reader to become engaged with the story.

Very true
It seems many of the more successful blogs on here include a very human, personal element. People want to get into the minds of others, to find out what makes them tick.
Goes totally against good reporting, which is what I originally thought blogging was all about.
