Sounds like a plan...
a dude who wrote a book about his approach to the write-a-novel-in-a-month contest, which he won, said that it was actually better for a writer to have a busy schedule --
busy schedules prompt people to make time for their writing, if it's something they care about, which is the only way they are going to succeed in any case, while a day completely free of commitments, free to write, usually gets spent lying in bed or doing other trivial things because there is no pressure to write at any given time; it's all open.
Some have the discipline to overcome that and use their free time well. I am developing that discipline.
So maybe having a regular job for awhile will train you to develop a good writing schedule so when you go freelance you will be in good shape...
