- Go to Che Guevara: A Fool’s Hero
Mysteria, its good to hear from you
I must go and visit your blogs, you have a remarkable ability to cheer me up. As to the Che mural in your park, I think someone needs to uphold the fine Hispanic tradition of graffiti, and spray paint "MURDERER" or "MONSTER" or "COMMIE FOOL" across his handsome mug with bright red paint. Wouldn't it fit right in with all the other graffiti?

L.E., I was a young sprout
In the early 60's I wasn't even a teenager yet, and not paying attention to any world events. I knew nothing about Che Guevara until I started seeing his picture in college dorm rooms in the 70's. I could see from the red star that he was Communist, and I thought he had something to do with Vietnam. Silly me. In this post, I completed my own education, while informing my fellow bloggers. Now, the next time we see someone with a Che picture, we can at least tell them what they are wearing. I bet they won't wear it again!

GoldenMean, In San Diego We Have A Place Called
"Chicano Park". In the park they have murals representitive of the said culture. There is a mural honoring Che. The same rendition, beret and all, and a quote from him. All the murals are bigger than life. I think he is part of it because he is world renown and hispanic, as well as easy on the eyes like you say. He has been romantisized as a hero and is an icon for all revolution regardless of his political beliefs. I also think most people are mindless and sport his image much in the same way a child represents a favorite hero during Halloween.
And anything anti-capitalist is quite fashionable nowdays I seem to notice.
I am offended by the whole park actually. It is discriminatory and segregating. And representive of the way government kowtows to minorities and encourages racial disparity.
As always loving your work. None better on the BlogIt... mysteria

You obviously were not around in the mid 1960's. While I agree with you that Che was not a great "hero", he did represent a sense of freedom from fascism (esp in Cuba, where the Batista regime was at least as bad as Saddam in Iraq). I am kind of surprised, though, that he's become a fad again. Maybe the aftermath of "Evita"???
