glenn, good reply! But do his accomplishments under Jim Crow outweigh the negatives? damon, when you stop and think about it, any economic system is going to be limited by the limitations on resources available to it. So your argument could apply to capitialism, socialism or communism. As far as the timing of the gas chamber remarks go, I don't have time to look into it, but I'll concede the point out of the goodness of my heart. What about the rest of the issues raised?

Interesting...
...spin on some of this.

I think this guy's take on Communism is questionable, but he's dead right in predicting the doom of the free market. I fully expect to see it in my lifetime. Why? Because the free market model demands constant growth. Constant growth means infinite growth, which requires infinite resources. And unless I've missed something, we live on a finite planet. Capish?

Also, you write "He failed to mention concentration camps and the gas ovens that consumed millions." Well, he did visit Nazi Germany in 1937, and his observations were pretty much spot on for the time. He'd have had a hard job mentioning the camps and the ovens that didn't manifest for another five years!

Doh.

WriterofLight,
Great peice on why Mr. Du Bois should not be honored! However you fail to mention his accomplishments as a Black man living in a Jim Crow democracy. If Senator Kerry sees any merit in paying homage to W.E. B. Du Bois allow him the right to present his case for debate. Mr. Du Bois enhanced the debate about American democracy! Without the anti-American and anti-Jew slant that you implied.

Thanks for bringin this to light (no pun intended)!
John Kerry, and most of the real ardent left-wingers, in our land are rotten.
