Very good piece
It is the understanding of many that the reason the poorer class are not given equal education is that the country needs a certain precentage of people that are poorly educated. If everyone was to get a good education and college degrees, we would have no one to pick up the garbage and do the other menial jobes in this country. Throwing money at the problem, as our politicians seem to do does not solve the problem either. Major changes need to be made in the educational system as a whole. We have people graduating from all levels and types of schools who can not read or write above 5th grade level. We have classrooms where if the teacher wants certain supplies, like construction paper, and other basics they are paying for it out of their own pockets. Sure the educational systems need more money, but that money needs to go toward the educating of our kids and not the adminisrations. When ever there is a shortage of revenue, what is one of the first things to get hit with cuts in the budget, the schools.
Congratulations on your achievement with your plans and doing a great job of writing it up.

Yep, you are 100% correct...
I have not read the Kozol book, but we were discussing it on Wed. and I understand that it is an excellent piece on the subject. There is no fairness in America, particularly in education, the rich get all the cookies...the system is set up that way, and funding for public education being based on local level property taxes is just one more way the poor get screwed...
