It's the difference between expediency, convenience and what is ethically right for you.
I always try to chose the ethically right option, whatever the cost to me and mine - and it has cost us a lot (and not just in money) over the last almost 60 years I've been making my own choices.
ps: sometimes collaboration IS the right ethical choice and sometimes it's dissent.
