first, tought -- Moses never led the people into Canaan to conquer -- it was Joshua who did that.
That aside, at that time, various ethnic groups vied for predominance of the area. Wars and battles abounded between the Canaanites, the Philistines, the Israelites, the Ammonites and various other small related tribal groups.
The Old Testament is mainly a personification of this -- a rationalisation for the conquest and control of the land.

I find Moses interesting in that he was the first mass-murderer in history

He was sent to the promise-land... but when he got there, it was already occupied. So he did what any good Christian would do. He murdered every man, woman, child, and cattle... save a whore who showed him "the lay of the land" so he might pillage it.

But some forget that fact, and still kiss that murderous bastards ass.

I love Jesus. And I love what he stood for. You might find that in the NEW testament. In my opinion, Christ came to correct the Old Testament. But that's just me
