The words are from
Mt. 8:8, taken from the story of the centurion who wanted to have his servant healed (Mt. 8:1-13, cf. Luke 7:1-11). As we use it in the Mass, it is a confession that not even the good works I may have done makes me worthy of such a privilege as receiving the Lord. In fact, even the Mass is the Lord's work, given to mankind out of sheer love and mercy.

Friar T
I guess I always assumed that being called to holiness was like being called to dinner because of what I know about my own nature. But the prayer "I am not worthy to receive You, Lord; just say the word and I will be healed" has really floored me.
