Well, coming from one who is full of imperfections --
I would agree with word.smith that Christians are a work in progress.  And for those who profess to be Christians but act and live something totally different . . . God knows their hearts and will judge accordingly.  God knows the hearts of all of us, and I believe that is what matters in the end.

"definition one word, Chriatian," should actually read "definition of one word, Christian."  SORRY

"So why, pray tell, should I believe some Christians here on Blogit?"

Trusting words written by each writer should be done on an individual basis.  If the writer does not adequately prove his or her point to the reader, the reader has the choice to reject it.  To outright reject ALL writers of a group based on a narrow definition one word, Chriatian, would be an act of prejudice.

To reject "some?"  I'd say that would depend on what you mean by "some."  Are you talking about a narrowed subgroup of those bloggers that define themselves as Christians in a like manner?  Are you talking about the work of each individual writer?  Are you talking about another idea of some?

Not all Christians are baptists; not all Christians are deacons; not all Christians believe that "saved" is an unconditional state of existence; not all Christians think lying is acceptable.  Not all Christians use deception to get their points across either, though I think that is more about being human than being a christian, as I've seen this deceptive behavior in all walks of life.

Being 'saved' does not mean driving
on autopilot straight into heaven. We are works in progress and until we die we have to work at following Christ. We won't be perfect, but lying constantly and doing things we know are contrary to what Jesus taught  sure won't get us into heaven.

Empty -
Unfortuntaley, any of us can fall pray to Ego - sometimes without realizing it. For me, like usually attracts like - and a person who is truly spiritually mature will answer questions from that perspective. Any other approach and I take it with a grain of salt.

empty_handed_painter -- just recently we witnessed what you are speaking of
right here on Blogit. A recently departed blogger who will remain un-named claimed a high level of piety while at the same time was caught in too many lies to count.

The Baptist deacon in my church (who was married) was screwing
the piano player (also married--to someone else).  He always talked about how we were all going to hell but he wasn't because he was saved.  He's dead now.  Sometimes I wonder...
