I have been lazy lately so I just went and read all the posts I've missed in your blog. I find it all very inspirational. As for plastic surgery, I think it depends not just on circumstances such as injury but also personal issues such as does the person have a strong reason for desiring the surgery, a reason that is not pure vanity? I think some elective plastic surgeries are harmless enough. Joyce Meyer, the TV preacher who is one of my all-time favorites in her field, said she prayed and prayed about whether it was okay for her to get a face lift and God finally told her: "It's your face; do what you want with it." Now Ms. Meyer feels better about herself and has not apparently lost touch with more important things.
Another person I know and love, also a devout Christian, had "tummy-tuck" surgery. She had several c-section births and, though she exercises frequently and eats healthfully, the doctor assured her that no amount of exercise would get rid of the excess fat there. I think she made a reasonable choice in having it trimmed off, especially since she was not using the surgery as an escape from healthy habits, but a complement or supplement to them.
Overall, I view plastic surgery as just somewhat more radical than other appearance-enhancers such as make-up and hair dye. As long as one does not use such enhancers in a dangerous or unhealthy way, I think what one does to his/her body is relatively trivial compared to what's in the heart, mind and soul. If it makes a person feel better to have some plastic surgery and it does no serious harm, I think it's okay.
