Thanks dude, I didn't mention it myself because I didn't have the energy for a likely ensuing debate/argument/poo-on-a-stick throwing contest.

Well it's a high profile position - probably took him a long time to get there.  Perhaps he doesn't want some fool taking over "his" job, if you know worra mean.

Well here's an interesting stat:  the American media has 500 reporters embedded in Iraq and over 1,000 covering the Michael Jackson, er, "story".

The Idea...
...that the Pope is a "good man" because he wears white robes and heads up a church is very, very misguided.

That bloke has done an enormous amount of damage in his lifetime.

I wonder why the pope refused to step down after so much ailing health concerns.

Chris OK I can accept the sling at the media anytime. It's like the media updates on movie stars personal lives- who care who they are married to or dating, but it sells papers. I think the media puts all the illness stuff about elderly public figures in the same dumb drama.

I  have respect for the Pope he's been one of the most active and interesting ones in the past hundred years.

Certainly in the UK it's been well documented, as on website news sites such as CNN, the BBC, Yahoo, etc...And I did make a point that he is not similar to the Queen Mother, since she did, like all the Royal Family, nothing for anyone.

It was actually the media I was aiming at - not the Pope, although your collection of Pope facts were interesting.  Also, the general attitude of the post was that of 'why should I care', which is I believe an accurate portrayal of how most people feel about people like the Pope, or the Queen Mum, or whoever.  When you think about it, it's an interesting "result" from years of non stop media crap.

It gives the media fodder. Pays their salaries and provides "entertainment" for the rest of the world to watch.

I just don't like the look of where that roller coaster is going...

Chris you are off today. The pope, now suffering from Parkensons had larengeal trackets ( can't breathe) from the flu. This man who dedicated his life to others is not similar to the Queen Mum and all her glory. He's suffered gun shot wounds fro Ali Agca in the 80's, a tumor the size of an orange, gall bladder removal, apendix removal, cancer treatment, broken hip and replacement dislocated shoulder to name a few. Never heard a press release about him complaining so I did a little whining for him.

Since Arial announced his death two days ago...

...the folks at Disney have been working around the clock to construct a pant-wetting tribute to the Pontiff.  It's preliminary name is the Pope-A-Coaster.

I think they're having trouble figuring out how the little kiddies can get buggered during the ride, so everybody's glad he's not really dead yet.
