Pack heavy, but use a good carrier (or a disposable one)
1. If it proves unwieldy, you can sell it, give it away, or toss it. Don't abandon it in an airport.
2. You can use it for a chair waiting for the rental car.
3. If you have to ditch someone, the reassuring presence of your cast-off stuff (like a lizard's severed tail) will lull them into thnking you are coming back. I know three guys who are not still in a Morroccan prison because of that.
Douglas Addams said you only need a towel.....I find windbreakers indispensible, but cheaply and colorfully available in any American city's second hand stores.
