Barnabe, I responded to that via our email conversation. Steeler,
thank you for your support for out troops, my daughter included. For anyone who doubts the sacrifices made by our troops, I would suggest you go to your local VA Hospital, or a VFW club and sit and listen to these brave men and women (or their loved ones left behind) who risked life and limb-literally for US AND U.S.

Rush certainly will strike a nerve with that one!
But I agree with him; and I don't agree with him often!

The Flip Side!

I think what Pastor B is eluding to is there are some people, of the liberal persuasion, who have lashed out against Bush, the war and yes the troops. This reminds me of the way our troops were treated when they returned from Vietnam. You know who they are; the worthless liberal hippie crowd who sit around and enjoy the benefits of this nation but actually hate it and want to do nothing to defend our way of life and freedom.

Nevertheless, I hear and understand all of your examples and questions but I guess I will have to chalk this one up to "that's life and not all is fair in life"! For example, my Dad in WWII fought hand-to-hand combat with the Japanese and then he can not even get a monetary break on eyeglasses? Then we have a draft dodger who was president in the 90's who will never have to worry about money for eyeglasses or anything else in life?!?! You see, life is definitely not fair, then again who said it would be? I guess we all can give examples like these all day long. Just do me a favor, okay? Since the war began, when I see someone who is in the military, I stop, go up to them and thank them for what they are doing. It's not much but it's something. Thank your daughter for me Pastor B, okay?

I haven't heard anyone lash out at the troops? Where have you seen this? I'm just curious and would like to read what people are saying?

I am so glad you posted this! It is in fact something
many have no clue about or even take into consideration. My husband who retired Air Force, E6, after 20 years of service to his country, gets a whopping $632 a month-half of which goes to pay child support to his two girls, which never see it because their mother spends it on clothes and caviar for herself in Holland. Don't get me started on that one!
But our military personnel are so often treated like second class citizens after they have spent a portion of their life to serve their country and get little to no respect, appreciation or benefit afterward--it turns my stomach! My heart goes out to those who suffered a loss in 9/11, Oklahoma or the tsunami, but this scale is just not balanced!
I have to wonder how it will be when my daughter retires from the Air Force? Especially since she is going to Iraq now and we all know how so many feel about our troops being there--they lash out at the troops, when they are not the ones at fault for the war, but merely doing a job.

The issue of death benefits for US Service Men and Women
has been the focus of many law makers for the past few months (I don't know when this piece you posted aired but if it's recently, he's behind). Unless his point is the people involved in 9/11 should not get anything. (he's really diluted his argument).

I'll focus on what I think is the embarrassment-- the lack of compensation for our military personnel killed in action or when on duty.

I'll identify the senators by their parties only because I have forgotten their names. A Republican leader is pushing to up the death benefit to 100,000; a Democratic leader is pushing for up to $250,000 (I believe these figures are correct, the second may be higher).

There's another irony-- military personnel can get a large policy, BUT THEY HAVE TO PAY FOR IT THEMSELVES? That's nuts. They get very little as it is.

It's a straw dog to bring up 9/11 or anything else in relationship to this. The issue unto itself holds water.

Thanks for the post.

barnabee

PS I've never served but many of my relatives have; not having served I don't think I would ever call anyone out for NOT serving as Limbaugh has. Especially when many law makers did serve our country and Limbaugh did not. I think that's just a strange mentality.

One more irony (scoop has pointed this one out) Bush is proposing a large cut in Veterans' benefits. I think that's a strange mentality too.

I'm Feeling Out Of Sorts...

you know something feels strange, not quite right, sort of like I'm going to get sick when I have comments like the one katray just posted.  Just kidding! However, it is strange when I seem to agree with our, say, liberal cohabitants of the planet. It kind of gave me a shiver up my spine and I did not like it one bit! Actually I did not hear Rush say this, however, if he did I must say that I do agree with him. After all, I have only disagreed with Rush about one thing in the 17 years I have listened to him and that was NAFTA (by the way Rush, looks like I was right about that one). My Dad was a WWII vet and I never felt like he got the right deal either. HOWEVER, THIS DOES NOT KEEP ME FROM HAMMERING THE WORTHLESS LIBERALS LIKE BOXER, KENNEDY AND KERRY FOR THEIR "NO" VOTES ON CONDI RICE! HOW COMPLETELY WORTHLESS CAN THESE LIBERALS GET. THEY MUST BE RACISTS! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! DOESN'T FEEL SO GOOD WHEN THE SHOE IS ON THE OTHER FOOT DOES IT?

WHEW, I AM BACK TO MY OLD SELF NOW AND FEELING MUCH BETTER, KATRAY!

This was a great post Steelerman. I didn't know this and I"m sure there
are others that don't know.  It is awful and I agree with you and Rush!  I think some people just get greedy.

Thanks for this post Steelerman
For once, I'm in total agreement with you and Rush. Feels strange.  I've been aware we don't treat our brave people in uniform right; we haven't since...well never actually. Yes, it is way past time to raise a fuss about this, I'll start with my Congressmen.
