For what it's worth, painter without a brush
Infallibility in the Catholic Church is not supposed to make sense. Neither does the Trinity, the Eucharist, or even forgiveness for that matter. The Church is like the army, the pope can be
ex cathedra the same way a general's order will be obeyed. That does NOT relieve the individual soldier from the responsibility of following ONLY legal orders. In any event, it is only the form of the church which is perfect, not the humans who fill it.

I read a whole pamphlet explaining how the pope is infallible, while also trying to explain that he was only human. I read the stupid thing three times and realized that it was just leading me around in circles, so I gave it to my mom to read. She did the same thing - read it several times and told me that it made no sense.
