SlyCy...

it is interesting that you are sick and tired of answering that question. Obviously, many people have asked you that question. Obviously, many people asked you that question because are unaware of your claims because they are untrue. I am sure you are an adult. As an adult you must realize that everything on the internet is not true. If you don't realize this then take this advice, don't believe everything you read or hear or you could risk being called a  Dan Rather "Wannabe". Also, as far as books go, stay out of the fiction isle at your local library. Don't bother me with your comments and/or lies. Now go read your latest letter from your party's new chairman Howard Dean!

Steelerman ~ That was news, like, 4 weeks ago.

It just became official this week, tho.

The entire backbone of the Pats is finding people to fill in for those that are gone.  It's kept them at the top of the NFL for quite a while now.  If you think a mastermind like Belechik hasn't been planning for his coordinators' departure for a while now, you need to study the Patriots as an organization a little more.  Check that. As a CHAMPIONSHIP organization.

The best thing about the Pats is that the only things people can find wrong with them are things that haven't happened yet.  That's a pretty good place to be.

Hey, maybe Cowher can win the Pro Bowl!  It's a meaningless game...should be right up his alley.

Barnabee and Mark2556...
ummm, don't look now but it has been less than a week and your Pats have already lost an assistant coach who went over to the lowly Cleveland Browns to try to help them out. Don't worry, I will be here throughout the preseason to remind you of the fallouts. This is only the beginning!

Miss reading
Steelerman61:

Brady will probably want more money but not enough to break the bank; he's already made strong indications of that. any, Brady has one more year on his contract (at least)

The notion that Coach B will give it up because he has nothing more to do or prove involves a false assumption-- that to him it's all about the rings. That's not the way he works-- to him it's all about the process of getting to the rings. And every day that offers new challenges, problems, and revelations.

Yeah, the Pats are going 2-14...

..and Refrigerator Perry is coming back to break Jerry Rice's receiving record.  And heck, even the Steelers might learn how to win a game that matters.  Both are equally feasible.

Howver, I suppose the Pats will go on to break other Superbowl records held by teams that are REALLY distan memories.  In 30 year's I'll probably be telling somebody that their team isn't as good as the old Pats, and that someone will probably tell me to check the scoreboard for THIS year.

Pats done due to injury?  HO!  They won the Superbowl last year after losing nearly EVERY STARTER at some point.  They one it this year with a busted up secondary (that would be the one that picked the Steelers pocket after the front forced Roth. to toss up some ducks).  Free agency?  The reason they're great is because the players understand being a champion is more rewarding than being paid like a superstar.

They're 34-3 since October of 2002.  They haven't lost a playoff game since 1999.

One more Superbowl?  Who's going to be better than them?

3 words.  DY-NA-STY

Well, Well, Mark2556...

another ho-hum day at the Super Bowl. I laughed in the third quarter when the game was tied at 14 and the Eagles' fans actually thought they had a chance to win. I knew then that would not last long. Well, David1Spirit said Pats 31 Eagles 17, I said Pats 31 Eagles 20. Close but I know that there are some bookies in this country who had the spread at 6 and are weeping today. Well, that's #3 for the Pats! Just think, you still have to win one more to match the awesome greatness of the Pittsburgh Steelers franchise 4 Super Bowls. Before you say you will win the 4th, just remember you might want to look at two things next year.

1.  Brady will want more money along with everyone else. I think the Pats are at there limit now.

2. What does coach Bill need with another year? He may say "see ya!"

Things are looking better everyday for that 2-14 season looming in the future for the Pats. They are a great team but in this day of serious injuries and free agency and outrageous salaries, 3 Super Bowls are about the limit.

I definitely agree with playing in the elements. They said it would be a chance of rain in Jacksonville on Sunday. I would love to see it pour all game long. I thought about this at work today and asked some other co-workers but like me we could not think of one Super Bowl that had any weather elements during the game. can you? Have we missed one?

No....Foxboro was a dump.  I mean, a charmless dump.  It was horrid.  I'm all for playing outdoors on frozen dirt (like the Superbowl OUGHTA be played), but Foxboro wasn't even a stadium...just a bunch of aluminum bleachers set in concrete.  40' piss-troughs that had 1 gallon of water flushed through them about once every New England winning season.  And don't forget, banned from Monday Night Football for a fan hurling another fan off the upper deck.  Whoops!

The teams and players, however, were quite colorful.  We had Scott Sisson, Kicker Extrodinaire, who could only put it through the uprights from 26 yards about, oh, 50% of the time.  Hence the nickname, "Missin' Sisson".

Thank Christ, God Allah and Buddah for Robert Kraft.

And, Hail Hannah.

you have to admit though those old stadiums had their charm. I miss those old ones. I used to get a kick out of your placekicker named John Smith, remember him? The name, the teams nickname just seemed to fit in a way. And Grogan, his neck was three miles long. I felt sorry for that guy. I thought he was a pretty good QB stuck on bad teams, except for the year they went to the Super Bowl. Ah, the names of the past like Irving Fryar, Tim Fox, John Hannah and of course Jim Plunkett. I used to like the Cleveland and Baltimore stadiums as well. The dirt of the baseball field and all. That is how it was meant to be played. Now they are indoors and not able to play in the elements, right Manning? And the players sit out if they have a hangnail. These guys now are tough?!  I see ray Lewis of the Ravens and his pregame dancing and prancing and junk talk during the game; it makes me wish Butkis would come out and nail him to the turf, ha! Hey, don't be so hard on Foxboro, those were the good ole days.

posted by RedStatesMan on February 3, 2005 at 7:59 PM | link to this | reply

No starnger to bad teams? Heck, the old Pats INVENTED it.

When I got my seats....5 yard line 9th row, there were literally dozens and dozens to choose from.  Now they're worth more than their weight in plutonium.

The Pats were so bad back then that we'd all scream "PUNT IT!" on every first down.  The only thing that sucked as much was Foxboro stadium.  It was a dump....a glorified set of aluminum high school bleachers, without much glory, at that.

if you have been a season ticket holder of the Patriots for 13 years then you are no stranger to really bad teams. I did actually cheer for the Patriots one time and of course they let me down. That game you may remember: BEARS 46 Patsies 10. I actually cheered hard for them to beat Ditka's Bears but of course that game was over before it started. Super Bowl XX, I believe. The Colts have no defense plus if you stop Manning then you have them beat; not to mention Manning can not play in the snow. Manning will be just like his Dad, great QB on bad teams. Well, enjoy Sunday and the offseason while you still can; this too shall pass.

Steelerman ~ Yep. Season ticket-holder for 13 years.

And you were right about them not deserving the WeUsedToBeGood Bowl.  I think they're playing Payton Manning and the Tighty-Whitie Colts in the WeCan'tWinTheBigGame Bowl.

The Steelers, however, would certainly crush the Colts.

Who excremented in your corn flakes? Are you reading my comments our making up stuff? I just told you why the Steelers lost, heck, they should have lost to the Jets because they did not deserve to win that game. However, this talk about how the Steelers deserve to play in a Weusedtobegreat Bowl is stupid. You could use that for all teams. Get a grip dude!

Steelerman ~  You're right.  They get to play the Dolphins in the WeUsedToBeGreat Bowl.

They lost because they got beaten...soundly.  That's just the way it is.

Mark 2556, Pastor B and SlyCy...

Mark 2556- The Steelers have won 4 Super Bowls; that is 4 more than many of the teams in the NFL. The Steelers can score points but you don't have to score many when they have a good "D". They had a rookie QB who was due a bad game plus they have a whiner in Burress. That is why they lost.

Pastor B- Not unsportsmanlike conduct on my part. Just look at history. Someone stated that the Pats will win the next 8 years, I doubt that seriously because of how the league is set up i.e. free agency plus injuries are a big factor.

SlyCy- a criminal in the White House? You must be referring to Clinton. Hey, pal it is 2005 not the 90's. I know you meant Bush. I know you are extremely upset at how the Iraq election went yesterday just like your buddy Teddy kennedy but that's for another blog.

If the Sleelers could put as many points on the board..

...as their claims of how they were cheated out of a victory, they'd be the AFC champs 4 times over in the past 5 years.

As it is, they get to go to the WeShouldaWon Bowl again, where they remain the reigning dynasty.

posted by mark2556 on January 31, 2005 at 7:39 AM | link to this | reply

what's this? unsportsman like conduct here Steeler?
Do you recall I said in one of your other posts that I thought the Pats would pull it off in the playoffs? I however don't think they will be able to win the SuperBowl. Not because I think they're a bad team, but I think they have a big obstacle to overcome: EGO. Therefore, my money were I betting person, would be with the Eagles.

Thanks, SlyCy...
I will definitely save that comment. If you think that the Pats will be great for the next five years then you know nothing about football. The Steelers had 4 Super Bowl rings and the 49ers had, what, 5 total. When the Pats win on Feb. 6, unless they have a total breakdown, then that will be #3 for them. Within the next 5 years the Pats will experience what the 49ers do now, a 2-14 season. If the Pats are this good for the next 5 years, as you say SlyCy, then that would mean a total of 8 championships. Unheard of. There are too many injuries and free agency and good rookies that go to all the teams for that to happen. The Red Sox won the WS and now the Pats will probably win the SB and I congratulate both because in the end, I will always trade two athletic team championships from Massachusetts and give me a President from Texas any day.  The important thing here is that the one lost that Massachusetts suffered this year was the most important and the best for our nation.

Great sportsmanship steeler. Doesn't surprise me. Steelers have a pretty
good team and a good rookie qb.  They;ll play second fiddle to the Pats for the next five years.  Take care.

posted by SlyCy on January 28, 2005 at 6:28 AM | link to this | reply

I sense some bad sportsmanship over the fact that the PATS
dismantled the Steelers. Some grumbling over calls. There were no controversial calls. Steelers lost because they couldn't run and Burgerman melted down. Add to that some major gaffs on Pittsburgh's defense, the Pats whooped their butts.

You don't watch the PATS much because if you did then you'd know that they have a diferent plan and sequence for every team they face. I think they'll test the secondary first. Click into a lead and run Dillon after that.

There was a point there in the late 3rd quarter

when I thought they would actually do it. But then that last interception pretty much nailed it down.

I'll take the Pats over the Eagles 31-17!
