sheilake -- it's amazing that in 2005 we are still talking about this
My take on it is that there are a lot more important problems on this planet than trying to make a small group of people conform to the tastes and ideals of the larger group. And the real irony lies in the fact that those who would promote conversion therapy would not have to promote it and possibly have it become a real science through gay acceptance.

Oh no ! Not acceptance!
(Say this like Mr. Bill)
Everyone knows the end of the world is surely near if we start letting people be who they are.... :)

renigade3 -- your comment in itself is a good point
why must people have proof that being gay is a natural thing? There is no good answer for this other than it would accelerate acceptance.

gomedome--Good points.
I have asked gay friends the same questions, and received the very same answers you mentioned.  My question is this:  Why even debate whether homosexuality is "natural" or not?  It exists.  That's it.  Whether you can understand it or not is your own problem.  Too bad people can't just give it a rest, already.

pappy -- I have to agree
knowing a few gays changes everything in one's preconceived perspective. I wish all of the nonsense of public demonstrations against the gay community would just die a natural death so we can focus on other things.

I'm with you on this one gomedome
Once a person gets to know a few gay people, or have someone in the family who's gay, the whole 'You need to be healed' thing goes pretty much out the window.  I'm afraid that when a bigot becomes a christian, they are often just bigots.  Is that a surprise?

and it carries a little bit of extra weight coming from an individual with your credentials. Thank You

Well stated
Thanks for the synopsis of thought and research that has been in "process" for some time.  The tug of war over sexuality and sexual choices especially among religious adherents seems at times diametrically opposed to the teachings of the great world religions. In the Christian Gospels, no where can it be attributed to Jesus to reject individuals on the basis of sexual preference.  Nor does his personal interactions with individuals of varying life and disease situations manifest exclusivity; Jesus in fact, takes on "ritual uncleanliness" in healing lepers and consorting with tax collectors and others.  Yes, I agree...we will need to re-evaluate our views which have been formed by hundreds of years of uninformed teaching and lack of empirical scientific evidence. Science and religion are not enemies...sometimes they even work together!
