Good ideas, all, Ciel
It is especially helpful through those 'rough' spots where you're not quite sure what the writer had in mind.  But of course, the best approach is to not worry so much about what the Holy Spirit had intended for the writer to say;   ponder instead what is the Holy Spirit can make YOU capable of hearing.

Interesting perspective...I suppose when I read the Bible I think of
the verse that says "I am the same yesterday, today and tomorrow."  From there I try to see a consistent pattern in the true character of God, as a profiler might be doing when he's looking for someone.  We don't know for sure if King James added the word "witch" do we?  The whole "sorcery" thing comes from the root word pharmacy...and had little to do with spell casting and everything to do with drugs and poisons, from my studies in this matter.
