Thanks so much for you honesty, Mia. I really, really do appreciate that.
We are "cliquish". This is part of our problem, I know. I wrote about the "oldies" too. I really am just seeking answers. And you've given me some quite nicely. There are many that write about their lives, Mia. Try the Journal category, and I think you'll find much there that suits you. My blog is in On Writing, which makes it more geared towards writing both here and off Blogit and I can understand why it wouldn't suit you. You can do well here in other categories and find much to read that you like. I don't read every category either, Mia, and all of us here don't expect anyone to do that. Welcome, Mia, and again, thanks for your honesty. This is appreciated by myself and others.

The "clique" here is boring.

This newbie doesn't want to read about Blogit - land. I don't get it and I don't want to. Ugh - I'm surprised so many people are interested in reading about what others are doing here. I'd rather be reading about what people are doing in their real lives.

(And, I don't care if I'm read or not. I just want to write down my thoughts and clear my head of them.)

(And, I know I don't have to read this stuff. I won't anymore.)

I don't think many do realize, Ben.
I have spam tagging too. So many times, they are in my "junk folder". I have seen questions from new ones in the Cafe and Community help, looking for answers on how to get read. The answers are here, by reading others.

It is a trouble trying to locate blogs from mail. Plus, we can't remember who they are & what last comment we gave to who. I wish they realise this. I can't reply either as my time is limited.

Ben.

I know, Ben. I've received more mail from new ones in the past two months,
than I have my entire time on here. They seem to prefer a quick "hello" via email, meaning, "read me more", but I can't be bothered to read you and comment on here.

I get four hundred emails a day on average. Don't need much more.

You have a deal, Renegade. And if us "oldies" are so obnoxious, we're
unbearable, let us know!!!! I never "cheat" on clicks and don't care about the "profits" here (if you can call them that). You're one of the FEW new persons that bothers to interact, Renegade. Check my comments throughout all my blogs. This is my point with some. I religiously comment on ten new people a day, to try and make them feel welcomed. You know what, only about two or three ever bother to read me even once. You're different. And your writing is different. You're well up in the rankings, and you'll push all of us out of the way soon. Other new members are always asking, "How do I get clicks and reads"? You are a perfect example of "how" and although I tell them all, few really listen. On Blogit no one exists in a void.

posted by KlaraRoberts on January 13, 2005 at 1:02 PM | link to this | reply

Your guess is good. The new tend to fire off mail instead of returning a click. For someone who's already plagued with work, more mail means more work!

Ben.

posted by A-and-B on January 13, 2005 at 12:56 PM | link to this | reply

Need to say one more thing...
There are some pretty successful "oldies" on here who don't even do that much!  What, are they scared we'll take some of the profit margin?

posted by Renigade on January 13, 2005 at 12:55 PM | link to this | reply

Okay, if I offend someone,
PLEASE let me know.  As a newbie, it's hard to know the ins and outs of Blogit.  I try to read (and comment) on everyone who does the same for me.  And, if I find the writing to be good/interesting, then I keep reading no matter what.  Isn't that how it's supposed to be done?

posted by Renigade on January 13, 2005 at 12:53 PM | link to this | reply

You're right, Ben. I missed that point.
Maybe the newbies only read the comments? And then decide who to click? I miss a lot these days.

Thanks so much, Tals. If you can't post it today, I will wait patiently.
I'll just keep checking your blog.

I know about the detractors, Tals. I do read between the lines. Many times, I walk away (99% of the time, actually, as what is the point). But many times that just keeps the fires burning.

I'm basically happy with myself Tals. Maybe that shows, don't know.

At any rate, thanks for all you do. I do appreciate it.

KlaraRoberts

Okay, I will. I had something else planned for today's post, but I can put it on the back burner. Look for it later today.

Often it's apparent where your detractors are coming from. Note what they say in their own posts and how they say it. Look at the comments they recieve and those they leave in other posts. It takes some reading between the lines (with the unavoidable margin of error), but you'll see a pattern emerging. The most critical, harsh, judgemental, the jerks and the shrews, are usually the same ones whose lives are in the most turmoil. If pain and misery is all they have, pain and misery is all they have to offer.

posted by Talion on January 13, 2005 at 9:00 AM | link to this | reply

I wish you'd rewrite that, Tals (hint, hint). As always, your analysis
is superb and something I hadn't considered. My writing is only my written persona though. I've posted on that myself as too many consider this my personality overall. I get paid to write, Tals. I get paid all day each day to authoritatively convince others to take an action on behalf of a company, as I am a B2B writer primarily. So my writing may very well "seem" as if I am speaking to the person reading it directly. That is a stylized method at play though. But my comments sure do reflect what you're saying. Others respond either positively or negatively and each one answers completely. But in person, my writing is not the "whole me".

I wrote (and unfortunately deleted) a post a while ago about my younger brother. He has this uncanny knack for eliciting strong emotions from people. Either they love him or hate him, with no in between. It seems he's able, without consciously trying, to draw out a person's innermost feelings. How they view themselves is reflected by the way they view him. those that love themselves love him, those that don't...It's a blessing and a curse. The Blogit version of your personality does the same thing.

Thanks, Tals. I really did understand what you meant.
I just find that many times now, I can't be myself. I strive not to offend, and in doing so, seem to offend even more. Some tell me I'm holding back, others tell me I should hold back, and still others tell me they don't know what to make of me. I've been told simultaneously in one day, that I have a big fat "ego", and the same day told I'm too "modest". LOL Well, which is it????? I get emails purporting to know all about me. Oh, yeah, right. It goes on and on and I no longer write or respond as I'd like, actually.

Since our conversation is straying far from Firelord's topic, I figured it should resume here. Anyway, I watched "Entertainment Tonight" last night and the whole show was basically devoted to the breakup of Brad Pit and Jennifer Anniston, like it was a tragedy or something. If one of them died, I could understand, but it's just a divorce. That's what I meant by the price of fame. Everybody's watching every little thing you do, scrutinizing, over-analyzing, and lightning quick to point out the slightest reason why you shouldn't be where you are.

MerryAnne here has started an "assigned topic" contest, Barrett.
Check it out if you want. She and I agree with you, there needs to be a focus here that is missing totally. Blogit obviously won't provide that, so we'll give it a shot ourselves.

posted by KlaraRoberts on January 13, 2005 at 6:33 AM | link to this | reply

You're so right, Picks. It is much whinier than ever before.
And like you, I'm very polite and always return clicks and comments. But many times, I will visit a new blog over and over, with no return visit from the new person. I give up after a while. Which leaves me with the older members again, and this is where our cliques start I think. I feel forced into them.

reasons?
I guess from what I've seen of blogit is that there is a lot of whinging and whining going on. There really seems to be an air of clique-iness around the place and although I agree that the click for click is a good marketing tool it can also mean that people become lazy. When you click just because someone else clicked you, you don't always end up reading something that is of interest to you.

To keep people here longer than a month (the minimum opt-in) the writing needs to be fresher, old ideas can be rehashed in a different light and posts need to be well written with consideration to content, spelling and grammar.

I know a few people will get angry and say that this is a place for them to spew forth random thoughts with the liberating freedom of no spell checking or the grammar police on board but this does not seem to be keeping the new people on board.

I still think it comes down to the cost of the subscription - why pay $10 when you can have online journals for free? Why pay $10 to earn diddly-squat when you can join writing forums or get paid more for submitting an opinion piece to other writing forums without a subscription buy-in?

Anyway, that's my two bits for today!

I've said this before

This site should become a true online newspaper and each participant should  become a reporter.  Participants in the plan should be required to dig up things that have been assigned to us by our self created blogit editors.

If sex needs a carrot & stick now & then,  that would sure explain why writers have even bigger lulls.

Klara, I've resigned myself
to the way things have become. I do enjoy being around Blogit and I do enjoy the interaction. Lately there are things happening that should happen when writers get together and I also enjoy seeing that. I can live with that for the time being. To be truthful, I much prefer to have things kind of on an even keel rathen than seeing unending blogs with sensational titles and nothing but fluff inside. I can live with that.

Perhaps it's time for a
blogging revolution. Let us cast our crates of mundane blogs over the side of the ship and fire that shot heard round the blogging community. Maybe in a fight for independence, we bloggers should strive for more originality and creativieness in out writing, instead of following the old path it is time that we strike out to discover new lands.

Hello KlaraRoberts!
I must be honest with you, I don't stop by Blogit everyday. But when I do, I always leave comments to anyone who has left me commets. I think it's fair. Newbies tend to not do this, and I'll stop dropping in if my clicks aren't returned. I suppose that's harsh, but when you don't have lots of time you learn how to not waste time. I really don't care if I'm popular, because I've never been popular. I like your blogs, and I feel honored that you read mine. Anyway, have a nice evening :)

No I don't Klara...you?

I have a few too, Merry. So I'm making progress, albeit slowly.
I was serious about the Cafe though. I found newbies there asking for "reads". The Blogit staff will not be reading much, is my guess! LOL

I am very excited though Klara,
I have found three newbies to read and two of them commented back.... I think that's good!

I know you were gone for a while, Tals. I noticed that. And missed you.
I thought it would change too. And you're right, your writing is the best ever now. But I like to read, too, and read yours and others regularly. I find many now don't post much at all and many others have left, so my reading is minimal, and I miss that.

Next one in the mail, CA!!!! LOL

KlaraRoberts
I decided to give Blogit one final shot before disappearing into the fog. I vowed not to get involved in all of the routine b.s., to ignore my rankings, and the pennies earned. I let it go and though the ugliness is still hard to ignore, I'm enjoying it here once again. It's ironic that things would slide downhill now. Since my hiatus, this is the best stuff I've written.

Klara - just keep sending the cheques and I'll keep being kind... *wink*

And I want yours too, CA. You are one of the first I read each day!
You're always so kind to me!

For me, Gyp, it was never about getting my own "reads" believe it or not.
You were one of the newbies that was highly interactive. Few and far between now it seems. I've been reading more of the poetry and learning it, which is a good point to all this.

posted by KlaraRoberts on January 12, 2005 at 2:20 PM | link to this | reply

Klara..
I go pretty much on my merry way. I welcome new people and comment to them, have a few of them that have been making the rounds which is nice to see. I read all my favorites and I post what I want. I  see the poetry being read more each day and am actually meeting more members through that as well. I have also seen the continual disillusionment of some of the older members such as yourself. But as I read your posts I see the amount of comments you receive and think.. hey, you're being read and we like you! Don't know what else to tell you.

posted by RedHeadedGypsy on January 12, 2005 at 2:17 PM | link to this | reply

Klara - don't even think of leaving! Unless of course you are going to email me your post every day so I can still enjoy reading you.

posted by Ca88andra on January 12, 2005 at 2:16 PM | link to this | reply

So would I Scoop. You and I have always agreed on this.
Others disagree with you and I. But my biggest pleasure here was the interaction, the reading and getting to know others. It's more difficult now and I find myself liking it less and less.

I am not spending as much time here on Blogit as I did before
I never really commented much unless I have something to say and then sometimes I still have nothing to say. I like to write and will scan through the posts looking for some good reads but many times it is the same old thing. I don't think it is going to get any better here. The prices I feel are scaring people off. We have lost some great writers the last six months. I would love to see readers be able to read for free.

Good sport, GinnieB. Do you have a tat?

posted by KlaraRoberts on January 12, 2005 at 2:12 PM | link to this | reply

Either way, I'll take your writing, Merry! LOL

posted by KlaraRoberts on January 12, 2005 at 2:07 PM | link to this | reply

I've considered that too, Void.
There are a few I've noticed (go to the Blogit cafe and help section, they are there), but maybe not enough to sustain us all. I find the rest of us becoming like a bunch of old bickering hens because of this.

I only post what I'm feeling, Beach.
Always the case. Yesterday, advertising tattoos, the day before, writing anxiety, and now today, Blogit. I just go with my "gut". No real thought going on most of the time.

Blogit tattoos?
Count me in ! ;)

posted by ginnieb on January 12, 2005 at 2:02 PM | link to this | reply

Klara, sometimes I wonder... What if there are no newbies?
What if Bloggitville is just 15-20 paying people who write, another 20-30 who only read, and about 100 forgotten accounts that still draw on some credit cards?...

I could run an outfit like that of my new PC (when I buy it) and a $50 a month hosting package... quite lucrative, if you think about it, and it almost works by itself...very little maintenance...nice...

Well, on that note...

LOL!
that doesn't answer the Funny-haha or funny-strange question... :)

It's not a matter of nice or not nice, David. I can handle either.
The place is "dead" and us older ones seem to be nitpicky now about everything because of that. Weird is what it is.

It helps to spend less time here
That alters one's perspective. Wiley is right too. I posted within a minute of you but I am not garnering the comments section as I can't face dissecting blogit today

posted by beachbelle on January 12, 2005 at 2:01 PM | link to this | reply

Alright, some real action! A tattoo party at my place! LOL
Did you hear that Wiles?

posted by KlaraRoberts on January 12, 2005 at 2:00 PM | link to this | reply

Oh, right, Merry. I spent most of my last fifty comments on your blogs!
LOL So much serious stuff here today I couldn't even bring myself to comment most of the time.

Yes, I do remember! I was on the field for that one!
But I don't want a repeat of that! So I decided that I am going to play nice now!

Don't start, Ari! LOL
If you do, I'll have to do Writing on the Death Side! LOL

You know what, though, that was the last time I had fun on here. Isn't that sad???

LOL. Best comment all day, Wiles! LOL
Come on over! Everyone else seems to want to watch too! LOL

I'm glad you brought some fun back here, Wiles.

Maybe I should change my title to Death According to Ariala...seems like

several people took my title and added their own name...oh well. LOL

Seriously, hang tight like Beachbelle said...

Actually, Beach, I was genuinely poking fun in a way.
I have to analyze the tone a little here now that you've pointed that out! LOL

KlaraRoberts

Yeah right  luv, you sure know how to suck us in eh??

I look back at your blogs and see 106 comments, 60 comments 48 comments and stuff like that, and I ask myself all the freakin' time what I'm missing. Geesh.

If Blogit is failing I know why, everybody's at your place clicking or watching you get tattooed.

I'm comin' down there to hell with blogging.

Klara. Just be.
It sounds like you spend too much time analyzing it all.
