Yes, I hear you, I wanted to create my own system too, but now I'm taking that writing course so that I might make a buck with my own system. Nice post as usual my friend, and always an education for me, thank you luv.

It is best not to worry too much. The most important part for me of the popularity thing is too have a following of real people who read.

Yeah, but
sooner or later the bard was compared to all other writers, and lucky for him; he was fucking good.

Beachbelle,
It seems there are two separate processes going on in writing, the creative and the critical. Although it can be tough to turn off the critical voice, the brainstorming comes first. Besides, rankings are basically popularity contests, so it's not a valid comparison of style, etc.

(oops...)
The ranking thing mystifies me a bit. It's nice to discover my blogs rising on the category page, because I figure that's a sign people are reading. I am amused to see a few more cents earned each day... . I write what impulse suggests, and share older pieces that have pleased me, and I watch for responses. And, of course I run around reading (more than I comment on), and try to support the writers I enjoy by reading them often. I start by visiting those who have commented on my work. Tempting as it is to think the rankings are important, and all, fame is a fleeting and fickle thing, so it's probably best not to pay too much attention to it.

We're going to be ranked in some form or fashion no matter who we are or what we do. There will always be a need to quickly determine who's "the best" and who's not. That's just the way it is. I try not to pay too much attention to such things, especially around these parts. I do the best that I can in all my endeavors, strive for improvement, but let others worry about where I stand. I already know.

There are bright spots here, a few such as yourself, but I often sense unfriendly undertones. I am not denying I give them off too as many of the arguments bore me, or are narrow-minded, or seem more about putting people down than improving anything.
Yes but like you there are things to pursue. I have sent some queries this week and while there's hope there is life

Beach, regretfully I'm starting to think
that everyday is an unfriendly day on Blogit. :(
On the other hand I have just queried a national magazine for an article.... so I'm happy. Even if it doesn't pan out I've done something good for myself today. :)
