How can you say you strayed off writing for the day after penning such an emotional piece?

Moohaha
I would like to thank you for your kind comments to this post. The worst thing about these kinds of things is that just as easily as my friend made a decision which ultimately saved her others made the decision which left them dead.I struggle to push that from my mind.

I have, like you, been unable to push this disaster far from my mind.

Wow, close call!
Glad things worked out in the best interest of your friend and her baby.  There's no telling what could have happened.  Take care Beachbelle

You haven't strayed off writing, Beach, as this is a sample of a great
piece of writing. It's sensitive and inspiring. I enjoyed this immensely.

We are such fragile creatures ... a cliche, but true. I am so glad for your friend and her precious wee little unborn one that they were saved from the tsunami horror. I saw on the news last night another montage of images of those whom have lost so much ... one was of a woman holding a picture of her toddler and wailing for her loss. My mind still will not comprehend the disaster, all I can do is weep.

Your post reminds me of a similar twist of fate for my best friend's god-daughter. She, the god-daughter, was living in New York for one year with her family (Aussies) and the day before the plans struck the Twin Towers she and her class were there for a tour of them. The day before. We are such sturdy creatures in many ways and so very, very fragile, too.

I am so happy for you and your friend, Beachbelle. Also, I have very much appreciated your compassionate voice of reason within all the posts about the tsunami disaster.

Isn't it amazing when miricles like this happen?

To me, this proves that children not only have it over adults in compassion and a more appropriate understanding of the human condition overall, but also perform miricles even before they enter the darn place.

Touching story. Thank you for sharing it.

Good fortune indeed. Who said there are no accidents?

Whenever I hear stories like that, I always think....no, it was not a coincidence it was divine intervention...it was meant to happen that way for whatever reason.

A beautiful and powerful post Beach. Small twists, tiny unborn; there is a reason for all that happens, good or bad, I believe.

So many tragic stories
have come from this disaster, but there have been so many wonderful ones like the one you shared. Beachbelle, your handle always makes me think of some masters painting of the woman on the beach in her bloomers with her parasal, glancing over her shoulder at the artist.

Wow, what a story, Beach.   She will have quite a tale to tell that little one when he/she is old enough to hear it.

It's always strange when something like that happens. I'm glad for your friend that she couldn't go.
