I saw a clip last night I hadn't seen before.  A child playing on the beach with the wave roaring up behind her/him.  There are screams of 'Run! Run!' and then the wave engulfs the child.  My wife and I burst into tears.

Thankyou..I think "Forever Swimming" might be a good thing to put on my headstone.  (Not to sound grim, but really, it fits!).  It almost sounds like a poem.  As does this post.  Very nice!

Anything that says "swimming" catches my eye.  You've had a few with "swimming"!

My reaction if I didn't know would be curiosity to go see what it was about

posted by beachbelle on January 6, 2005 at 3:18 PM | link to this | reply

I honestly
don't know what my reaction would be (prior to the Asian Tsunami) if I was at the beach and the water just ran away....

MerryAnne. I know some find it boring to post more than once a day. Not me
I want to post when something is on my mind.

You know I believe the story you refer to is just what happened to some people last week. Very eerie

Beach!
You are posting too fast for me... I read your story - then the tiny tyrants took over my world and when I came back two more posts!

This story really touched me. My husband is From Newfoundland and they tell the story of a "tidal wave" that "hove in Long Habour" and how all the towns folk ran out of thier homes to the beach because the sea had disappeared.

Jemmie
Yesterday a women was picked up after floating in the sea on a tree since December 26.
What I wondered about her was the shock to discover how big and far-ranging this was. For her it would have been as if she were the only one in the world this was happening too. And to think of how many others are out there waiting to be found but to have no one specifically searching for them.

The trouble is when there are so many stories - we will only know a fraction of them.

Tsunamis are scary!

I have read that people did just what the little one in your story did.  They ran TO the water because they were amazed that the water suddenly started to recede.  I don't know about them, but in Hawai`i we were always taught that if you saw that happening you'd better run away as fast as you possibly could.

I did read one story (on Snopes.com) about a little boy--estimated at around 2 years of age--who was found alive but separated from his family.  He was taken to a hospital, and the doctor who treated him took a couple of photographs of him and sent them 'round the internet to find the boy's family and/or his identity.

His search was fruitful!  The boy was later reunited with his family. Yay!  A touching tale amidst all the tragedy.

Yes, the great imbalance. It's the way things go on Blogit, the church of the self-absorbed.

I know what you mean and I should chill out more and just put it out there. It is just the imbalance of this place that throws me

I read it when it was originally posted, but didn't comment. Sometimes nothing else needs to be said.

Gheeghee. Thanks. It is so hard to know what sucks and what doesn't
especially when people go mad commenting on blogging (non)-issues. And so then you feel like I do now that you have to solicit comments to anything else

Beachy: You mean this? This is a great piece of writing here!
