Sounds like the coach syndrome...
My boys decided to deal with that two different ways. One went the way of the computer geeks (he build the one I am presently using) the other one went into (as if you haven't already guessed) motocross, yes, dirt bike racing, no coaches at all. If you can find a coach you like that will give all kids palying time would be best, unfortunately in schools there is a lot of pressure on to win win win. You know the mantra, show me a good loser and I will show you a loser. The whole thing pissed me off in school, I din't live in town and couldn't make practices to I could gain skills, thus no one had time for me. That put a stick up my ass for organized sports that I have yet to remove, one reason I love motorcross and motor sports. I'm not suggesting you trade hockey sticks for a dirt bike, merely wishing you the best of luck.
