I'm With You...
...there. Saul.

I guess I just want there to me withdrawal-plus, but I'm not sure what that would look like. Some sort of repair-work for the damage caused? Some sort of - gasp! apology?

Anyway, broad agreement here, for sure. As Scoop says - Support the Troops, Oppose the Policy.

Rude, DamonLeigh, it might be,

but there is no way in hell the situation there is going to get much better in the foreseeable future, which, according to Defense Secretary Rumsfeld, is somewhere around 2008 or later (probably later, because many officials beleive the war will continue long past the end of Dubya's second term).  Yes, we did make one hell of a mess out of the place, when, if we had done the right thing by pulling out after Hussein's capture (mission really accomplished), this intense situation should not exist.  It was the occupation of a central Muslim nation under the guise of promoting democracy that set this terrible scenario up.  We could have helped whatever type of government that replaced the despotic regime of Hussein's financially and rebuilt what damage was done from afar and with far less casualties all around.  It is this damned crusade mentality of the Bush administration to bring the shining light of democracy into the benighted Muslim world that was perceived as a threat by Muslims first, then the Iraqi people second.  The occupation has destroyed our credibility as liberators.  Rude, yeah.  Face-saving, no.  Intelligent, hell yeah.  Nobel peace prize winnable, hell no.  But it's a start.

Support the troops at all costs is what's important.  Not supporting the war is the greatest support they can get, because it may bring them home sooner, which ensures fewer casualties.  Let's work to bring them home.

No, void-is,

the coalition will not pull out anytime soon.  They have extended their estimated stay in Iraq to 2008.  They are committed (along with the U.S., who, by the way, is footing the bill, so, basically, the Coalition is nothing more than a mercenary force which will gain and lose members as time goes by) to the "rebuilding" of Iraq after they force a democratic government down Iraq'a throat.  So, pulling out is not an option, just a fervent wish on my and many others' part.

You think the coalition will pull out?

IS Withdrawal...
...as far as your plan extends?

I was hugely against the invasion in the first place (not least because it contravened so many international laws) but, now 'we're' in there, and have made such a godawful mess, surely we have to at least try to bring some order to the place?

Cutting and running now just seems rude.
