I think it's too general to say Christianity is intolerant.  I think a lot of Christians are plenty tolerant.  Those who are not are usually not in control of governments (although the Christian right would like to change that, yikes!).  It also depends how you define Christianity.  If Christianity per se teaches that Christ is the Lord of all and that nonbelievers are doomed to hell, then it would be fair to say Christianity is intolerant.  But I think such teaching represents a faction of Christianity, not its definition.

You are right on that one pappy
Asking the oppressed for forgiveness is not only a tall order but an impossible order. I am only suggesting that people try not to carry on or repeat these mistakes but even that is too much to ask. The mindset is entrenched, the negative prevailing attitudes seem to be gathering strength and not subsiding. It saddens me to witness the same prejudices not only resurfacing today but appearing to be gaining momentum as well as grass roots support. The born again revival that is currently underway (only in North America) is viral in nature and it's adherants think they have found something new. When the pathetic reality is that there is nothing new at all about the constant and endless repetition of religious history....and you have a Happy New Year as well.

Catholic from missionary school, wow gomedome

You're getting hammered from both sides.  The early faith feared local religions and incorporated as many of thier holidays as they could.  The later church was more interested in money and power and traveled with the armies who wanted the goods.  Their disdain for local custom cost them the entire nation of China.  The people of America were barely an afterthought once all the gold was gone.  Asking the oppressed to forgive those who should have known better is a tall order.  Happy New Year anyway.
