Maybe after a load of Singha beers anything is possible.
Conversely there were people who gave up their vacations to help.

Wow, Beach, that's a really astonishing thought.
How could anyone party overlooking wreckage? I'm sitting here shaking my head in disbelief!

Thank you. I read too how some of the bars were preparing for big New Year parties in streets overlooking the wreckage. Then there were pictures of people swimming just alongside wrecked cars. I know life goes on ..........

I have worked doing karaoke every new years eve for 5 years
tonight is the first time I have chose to relax indoors and bring the new year in by myself...some say by staying in they save money...but I have lost a lot of money because its double...but still.....I want to stay in!
thanks for sharing your story

A wrenchingly beautiful New Year's Eve posting, Beach.
This too, I had to read three times. Revelry has never been a priority for me, and I could not carry on as usual when surrounded by death and destruction. I think some, though, are able to put things out of their minds more easily than others. I am just perhaps more sensitive to things of this nature, as you seem to be.
A wonderful piece, Beach!

Yes the wall in some people is obviously deep inside. You see it in small ways watching people

Beachbelle,
This is a great post. How can someone remain unmoved in the middle of catastrophe? There's that wall in some people, I guess. The party never ends. It sounds sort of like a Canterbury tale, partying during the plague. I'm definitely a small party kind of person. Happy new year's.

We used to be party central too when we lived back home. It's quiet here now. And...that's quite a story about Turkey beach...there are truly some amazing reasons to celebrate in life. "To everything, there is a season."

New Year celebrations are over-rated. I always planned to sleep though one. Maybe this is the time. All the best for 2005

It's been a long time since I've done anything for New Years, at least since 2000. And alas, J is not a social type.

Thanks. I always preferred smaller gatherings at such times. It might also have something to do with the fact that as we get older we like things quieter. Take care

Your post made me think about how precious
and fragile life is and too how valuable the deep connections we form with others. I'd much rather be in a quiet setting with close friends welcoming the new year, rather than kicking up my heels with drunken, over-excited companions.

Oh Whammie
It is such a lovely dream. I had that same dream too. It believe it will happen for you. A lot can happen in a few short months...... or hours (well you never know!). Somewhere someone will be alone too ... because they haven't met you yet. Who'd have thought I was such a romantic?

beachebelle,
My dream is to one day finally spend the drop of the ball in the embrace of a man that really loves me. My reality is that I choose to spend New Year's Eve home, alone.

I prefer that kind of thing - the local bar, the home of a friend or family - it's more relaxing among friends. Thank you for making it through such a long post.

That was really a lovely, thought-provoking post. I know most people surely would have left....It's been ages since I have gone anywhere rowdy for New Years, but we've gone to our favorite little bar the last few years. This year I am greatly relieved that my sister isn't feeling well and wants to just have people over. She lives 1/2 a mile from me. I might even get away with staying in my pajamas!
