Beachbelle, I must be clueless... I never see the little skirmishes around here...  But I believe you, and know  you'll use your time wisely.

Beachbelle,

I do, often, get drawnn in controversy since I am passionate about certain political and spiritual beliefs and I just can't resist adding some opinion and/or facts.  It seems a fine line to distinguish between pot-stirring and actually engaging in healthy debate, but I do know what you mean. It's when it gets mean-spirited and personally insulting that the game doesn't seem worth the candle.

I hope you stick around, I enjoy your voice.

Thank you dear Symphony
I don't think of myself that way. There are many writers here who I can learn from.

Zack
I am not offended by anyone. I just want to read and write. As a writer I want my words to be the focus of attention, not me. It is like the trend we see now for interviewers to think they are the stars, to want to be loved.
Attention does not sit so well with me.

I want the writing to be the thing. That's all.

I may soon need to spend less time here because of a writing project. That'll show'em. Well I don't know about that but it will be pleasing to me and hard work. Thank you for your comment. It means a lot.

I agree the good outweighs the bad. Sometimes the silliest are loudest. Will we outlive Blogit I wonder? No, as I said I just want to write and read. People seem to focus too much on others. I would rather not do that

Beachbelle, I have a hard time
restraining myself from posting comments I hope will enfuriate the writers on the right wingy wacko's blogs. It never really gets me anywhere so with great effort, I try to ignore them. Politics is my sore point, not personalities. Maybe you just feel like you need a break but you feel obligated to keep writing because you have so many fans.

posted by Cynthia on December 26, 2004 at 8:35 AM | link to this | reply

Well I do like reading your posts, so it would be a shame to see you go.

I'd echo what most have said here, but in particular Zachary. This is a great place to be in order to test out an audience with all sorts of different writing. It makes you habitual about your writing and I'm sure we have all made connections to new people who we would now regard as friends, who we might even speak to for real or actually meet. We've learned to trust them online and they have become friends.

The goodness that is here by far outweighs the bad, but the bad sticks in your mind and your gut so easily that it seems larger sometimes. My wish would be that the spitefulness and hatefulness would disappear, but I don't think it will.

I, for one, would never want you to leave this network. I value your posts and I value your comments so highly, that it would make me less likely to want to drop in. I don't want to go and see the playground fight. I want to go to the school library and read some good stuff. Or I want to go to a classroom and learn something.

I believe we should always ride out the storms on here. I don't understand malicious emailing, never have. Maybe what we should do is have a hugging response team in place. Just blog about feeling down and we'll all rush to cheer you up. It takes a lot of good wishes to outweigh a bad one.

I love your writing and your presence here, Beachie. Don't ever leave.

Dave.

If you do leave...

I'll miss you.

Personally, I try not to read the blogs I know are just drama and/or meant to stir things up.  Otherwise I would have left Blogit ages ago.

Hasn't happened often . . . .
But in a couple instances I just blocked those who really annoyed me!

I read the post you wrote two blogs down....

and it answered one of the questions you asked.   Sometimes, folks want to get your goat, just because you are who you are....and  I don't mean that as it pertains to you specifically.

Then there are others who may be having an off day and cannot control the will to share misery with others.  I know it may be against your own interest, but I hope you stick around. You do much good around here through your posts, advice, comments and encouragement.

I don't know, beachbelle . . .

I don't understand what's happened to you. How did you become so upset again?

For me, this place is excellent to feel writing out. It's a great place to meet others with similar writing and reading interests. Above all, it's a place where I can practice my fiction or elements of it, get some feedback, and learn with everyone else through my trials and errors.

I worry that you might be taking something someone wrote to you either indirectly or directly a little too seriously. It was you, beachbelle, that warned me about this when I was having some trouble with a silly e-mail received not too long ago. Recall your advice? It was for me to keep solid and never, under any circumstance, give in to a bad seed. Doing so would only prove to allow them to win. I listened to you and others who sent the same or similar sentiments and I'm still here doing what I do best: writing.

If you have to go, great. If you're leaving because you have been offended by other people in a paid public subscription forum and network -- you're being silly and you know it. I know you know it because you told me!

Merry Christmas, belle. I'll miss you if you have to go. If you do go, though --- show 'em. Show 'em all. Don't tell 'em. They love to hear about themselves way too much.

It's odd how much attention some people need
and I wonder how attention gained here, particularly, can be truly satisfying.

Beach-Some write rather juvenile crap because they basically have no talent
and do it as a desperate measure to draw readers.  What long term benefits they will derive from such writing, we can only guess.  My guess then is not much to none.

posted by scriber on December 25, 2004 at 4:12 PM | link to this | reply

Beachbelle,

We're not the only ones second-guessing our decision to write here.  I'm sure in time you'll make the decision that is right for you.  Good luck with everything!

I agree wholeheartedly, Beach.
I am taking it day to day here myself, and if and when I do go, it will be because of the battles, actually.

Beachbelle, blogging, IMHO, is a good way to just practice and exercise...
writing. I don't think there's much to be gained by a lot of the interaction that goes on. If we're lucky, we may hook up with a few others who we enjoy interacting with and from whom we learn some things... It's not so bad, especialy if you can find the ignore button... :-)

it was a joke, but it's very hard to joke in writing I have discovered.  It was sort of like my dumb "what did you call me?" response, because unless you hear me say it, it looks pretty serious!  I'm sorry!  I'll try and put a cork in that!

Nice to hear from you. BTW, I wasn't sure what you meant on the comment on my boggling blogging post but the "you know who you are" categorically did not refer to you. To be honest I don't know who that is .... sometimes one just gets that feeling from people but then some people surprise you. Merry Christmas
