ExStud2006,

you are absolutely correct.  I was trying to be sarcastic in the Klan posting, but it seems that my intent went astray.  Both the Klan and Ms. Duty should be allowed free expression.  I was merely trying to point out the brighter side of Klansmen not being allowed to don their pointed hoods.  What I do beleive is that the judge in New York pressed his personal agenda by using the loitering law to alter and hinder the effect of robed Klansmen during their right to assemble.  However, I stand by my statement on the ACLU becoming a bunch of rabble-rousers, and not just because theyv've taken a case by the Klan...

If you want to give everyone their right, why do you pick and choose whom to please? I am terribly offended that there is such a thought as politically correctness is even a part of our society. What are you going to do about it?

I agree with you about the young lady with the Confederate flag dress, but I disagree with you about the Klan mask-wearing in public.  You defend the wearing of the dress on free expression grounds, and you are correct.  And ignominious as the Klan is, it seems to me they should be allowed to wear whatever silly costumes they want in public as long as it doesn't hurt others.  I agree that Klansmen are cowardly to cover up their faces, but that doesn't make it right for the law to say they can't do so.  What's the compelling state interest here?  Exposing ignorant bigots?  That's no reason to arrest people and throw them in jail because you find their costumes offensive.  The young lady with the Confederate dress is no doubt much less offensive by any standard than the Klan, but I thought that the most important thing was free expression.  If so, then everyone from the benign displayer of southern heritage to the malicious racist should be protected by the First Amendment.
