Go to Bush's War, or The War Of The Gulf

- Go to Anything To Justify Staying In Iraq Another Couple Of Years
mike-pilate,
it has always been possible for us to leave, depending on what degree of instability we are comfortable leaving the Iraqis with. Also, this war isn't about Al Qaida; never was. This war, as SlyCy so adeptly states it, is just a war of mindless aggression, called for by an overzealous obstinate president who beleives god is calling his shots for him. Now, we all know there are terrorists in Iraq, were terrorists in Iraq, and possibly some (maybe a lot more than some) had and have dealings with Al Qaida, but remember that Bush based this entire war on so-called faulty intelligence, Al Qaida involvement with Hussein (pretty much disproved by the 9/11 Commission), and bogus WMDs. Terrorism exists and will always exist. Using it to promote a modern version of the Domino Theory is the Bush administration at its propagandistic best. And Iraq isn't another Viet Nam, not yet. But the continued mishandling of the situation there will ensure that it will become another one. It's been long past time to withdraw completely from Iraq and bring our people safely home. Let the Iraqis sort out what should be done with their country. Beleive me, they will anyway, once our military leaves, democratic elections or not.

I always liked Carter. Perhaps I missed the boat on that one. Reagan
had unsavory deals with the Iranis on that one. Maybe he was better than you think. Dubya sickens me. Who cares who else was terrible. We are living in the Dubya era now. If we survive.

You have a strong argument but I am not going to discus my disagreements. But I ask you this, is it possible to leave now? What would happen if we do? Who would be the winner, U.S. or Alqaida? What about the civilians and the little people?
Don't get me wrong, I never liked to get shot at nor the responsibility to ensure my soldiers came back alive. I never figured how I would tell that mother or wife how their son or husban died and glad I never had to. We cannot run from another vietnam, but is true the politics need to change and be more agressive.
About Rumsfeld, well, he is not worth my time and that is Bush's downfall

That's exactly what I mean, scoop,
the Habitat For Humanity (I beleive that's what it's called, if I'm not mistaken) program is a great undertaking. Building houses for those who cannot afford them. You can't get much more philanthropic than that.

I agree maybe as a president not so good but a great humanitarian
he was well liked around the world, my mom worked with him building houses.

Easy enough to do
considering the man, although a great humanitarian and an all-around good person, almost single-handedly destroyed any semblance of the all-powerful America that was left over after Viet Nam. His handling of the hostage affair in Iran was not only scandalous but terribly misguided. Sometimes good will and good intentions do not a good president make.

jackie o,
the best: Wilson, FDR and JFK (with nods to Jefferson, Monroe and John Adams)
the worst: Dubya, Grant, and Carter (with nods to Hoover, Coolidge, and Jackson)
