Why wait? Just ask the nieghbors if you can take the tree, with
decorations, out of their living room after Christmas. Tell them you'll return everything boxed up after New Years.

Sounds like a good plan to grab an abandoned tree

BRIM-

That is SUCH A GREAT IDEA, I wish that were possible, and if you ever get that going, I will invest a significant amount of my children's inheritance in the company. LOL. FUNNY!! Thank you dearly for bringing me into your home by reading to your wife :)

ISN -

I really like this post - shared it with my wife and she got a big kick out of it, too! I wish like mad that I had the tools and the time to make a "lazy susan-like" closet in the corner of my living room -- on Christmas, just spin the closet to the pre-set up tree. Easter, spin it to the bunny. Halloween, Thanksgiving, July Fourth---I better get a bigger house!

Great post!

merry, suo, unicorn

I by no means put any rules in my comment section, but I think me as a disease or vomitting agent is a bad thing... hehehe, you guys are so funny. Suo, thanks for having my back, I hate when unicorn talks shit about me in her posts.. LOL, Uni, I have taken cat-precautions... I had NO IDEA trees and plants and all that were bad; I need to stop feeding the kids poinsettia.... kidding... kidding....

A tree, a tree, my kingdom for a tree

Yes, I too have seen the tree lots!  I figured with that many trees, can the Druids be far behind?  So, who's in charge of watering those trees, the one who waters the reindeer?  Who's wearing those little red felt caps with brown elf ears sewn on the sides?  Will elves come disguised as reindeer with droopy antlers?  I've seen them, they check you out at K-Mart and Wal-Mart.  Do the elves work for Santa? Does he pay them in candy canes or leftover Christmas trees?  Who pays the reindeer, or do they work for hay?  Christmas is now a universal holiday, so if a Buddhist puts up an aluminum tree and exchanges gifts, are they part of the elves?  But, I digress, back to the trees, everyone knows a Christmas tree is magical...a 2nd hand Christmas tree is twice as magical, and a bargain!

Well Holly gives me

an almost obsessive compulsive checking disorder....as I continually check if she's around here somewhere and when she's not...I feel bored....so I can blame that on her too. Yes, Holly is a dangerous plant to hang around!

Merry & Suom, well the truth had to come out sooner or later!
What do you expect, she lives in Arizona.
oops, so do I--but I have the excuse that I was born & raised here.

Unicorn
Sorry....too late...I have already blabbed! You really should try to be more tactful!

Geez Uni, that seems a bit harsh. ;) Mostly Holly causes dizziness in me. Mostly cause I"m laughing so hard I can't breath. LOL!

ISN

Did you see what Unicorn wrote about you in her post?!...I've copied it for your information...

"Holly can cause vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, and lethargy"

Hee hee...I am so funny! OK...I know....but I'm bored!!

ISN, you're welcome, I think anyone who
has pets should read it. Often people don't think about those hazards to our animals health until it's too late.

Thank you uni! i will go read it now!

ISN, ABSOLUTELY
Go read my post in "What an Animal", it's all about holiday safety for animals. Christmas trees can kill a cat.

unicorn-

um... should I be concerned about the new cat and our decorations? this wil be my first year with a cat...

posted by IsSanityNear on December 16, 2004 at 3:36 PM | link to this | reply

LOL, that sounds like a great plan!
We wanted to put our tree up, but we have six cats, so we'd be redecorating every morning and stepping on those glass ornaments all the way to the coffee pot.
I really enjoy the Christmas trees, but it drives me nuts those people that put them up on Thanksgiving! We'll probably wait and put ours up on the 25th while family is here and then in the morning the cats will have all the decorations off for us and we can just sweep them into a box and be done for the year!

Rachel loves to look at the tree - Emily - a future engineer i'm sure - tries to figure out how it comes apart!

posted by MerryAnne on December 16, 2004 at 3:27 PM | link to this | reply

Oh how sad!!
I can't imagine not having the tree around for a couple of months! I adore looking at the twinkling lights at night when all the other lights are off....and I have my carols playing in the background. Funny though...it must be a 'me' thing....as even as a child I remember sitting by the tree just daydreaming about Christmas day and what pressies Santa might bring. My kids like to put the tree up and decorate it....but they don't ever sit and look at it and they don't lament when it's time to take it down. Little scrooges! LOL. I don't think they'd even notice if we had a tree or not sometimes!

posted by suomynona on December 16, 2004 at 3:26 PM | link to this | reply

Until the kids are old enough to not climb the tree it has a very short existance in our house - usually a week tops. My nerves can't take much more! LOL!

posted by MerryAnne on December 16, 2004 at 3:21 PM | link to this | reply

well, here in Mexico, it is too damn hot to keep a
tree alive; we enjoy it for like 3 days... pine needles drive me nuts.

posted by IsSanityNear on December 16, 2004 at 3:20 PM | link to this | reply

Do you guys only put the tree up for actual Xmas day?
We have had our tree up since the end of November....and I usually leave it up all holidays...so until the very end of January! It's part laziness...part childish trying to hold on to that Christmas feeling! LOL!

posted by suomynona on December 16, 2004 at 3:18 PM | link to this | reply

i can blame the neighbor
for the dead tree! hehehe, the plan is foolproof!!

I love artificial!
I hate putting all the branches in their little slots though! A real Christmas tree would never survive in my house....I am a serial plant killer.
