It's not Christians that's my -- and others' problem.
And there are Christian denominations that have a problem with the problem.
The problem?
exclusivism -- I understand this -- like the other religions -- Christianity is considered the One True Religion and all people are to be converted -- or at least evangelized.
that's the second point -- evangelism -- or at least the mode -- I've been evangelized numerous times -- when someone approaches and leaves you alone then I'm fine with that -- but when they persist in saving your soul then I do have a problem.
narrow-mindedness -- but this is a ubiquitous quality -- it's refusal to consider things outside of a limited purview.
now I understand -- there's right -- and there's wrong -- and you don't want to discard the right and take up the wrong.
a set of rules -- no problem -- we all need rules -- they ground us in the proper path -- but sometimes the rules get in the way -- they become too much
like not playing cards on sunday
the biggest problem I have of course is with many groups attempting to control the discourse in this country -- sort of a crusade you know?
control of school boards to make rules, etc. that they want -- having a problem with the efforts of the government to keep religion out of the public (i.e., government) realm.
the argument to them is that freedom of religion means freedom for them to express their religion in public places, government owned structures and schools.
to me freedom of religion and separation of church and state means that all religions are free to worship -- all religious views are allowed -- and that one religion cannot be favored above another.
yes there are attacks out there -- and here on blogit -- and I may attack some-- but I feel I challenge more than attack -- challenge views -- question -- test -- put to the trial.
there's a lot of vitriol -- Christianity is the target, maybe because it's a big target -- also, like our government, it's what we have most contact with.
I am certain (we see it in Ukraine) that around the world, those in close contact with their governments or religions are critical of them.
It is because of the freedom in the U.S., though, that we can be freely critical -- and that's good.
other cultures do not allow such freedom of criticism.
maybe it's comparative -- relative to the culture -- where cultures are freer, criticism is more common.
it took several centuries for opposition to the Established Church finally to prevail in the form of Martin Luther -- and I'm certain that's because he had support from the people and rulers around him -- else he would have gone the way of the Waldenses and other groups that differed from the Dogma of the time.
Once the rule of Rome was broken, then Christianity blossomed and new views developed. I think that sometimes we have to realize that our varied religious beliefs and freedoms come from allowing such free expression.
I am sure that we don't want to go back.
This damn subject is a lot larger than any or all of us can express in all the posts and comments and tomes throughout history -- and I'm sure I come up short here -- but it's an attempt.
glad communicating with you.

Westwend...
I have gone to great lengths to express that I do not wish all of you to become a  Baptist like myself. My argument is about the attacks against Christianity that I do not see upon any other religion nor do I see attacks such as these against atheist. It seems tolerance is something I should have for everyone but no one should have it for my religion.
