Congrats beachbelle. It's all happening for you, and because of you. I was an instructor for 25 years and can confirm that you'll learn a lot; possibly more than your pupils. I was going to write that I don't censor my writing when it dawned on me I have a pseudonym for a reason, and I have to be censor every blog.

Thank you - the teaching is a new kind of gig for me. I am the same and if my book comes off I may have to kill this blog character

Congratulations for the teaching position...
as for who controls what I write, I would have to say that it is my absolute terror of people finding anything out about me personally in the real world sense. Even my name mentioned in my copyright is a pseudonym. I know that if people were really that interested, it would not be hard to track me down so I find myself keeping my opinions to myself for the most part. Another reason my writing career is in a state of disrepair.

I love this post because I can finally explain my complaints about inapproriate language. You spoke about the artist who threw out almost the first word "fuck". That is his problem in my mind. It becomes my problem when you is attached after the f word. When my name is attached and it is public even on here it is my problem. Enough said on that.
I believe what shows through in writing of fiction or such as blogging; is our socialsio-personality differences. The writing of trads papers etc., are dry and neutered; however, that same person writing something he wants to say will write differently. I can see their personality differences. I think that is what makes them unique. I don't mind what language you use, I don't have to read you if it bothers me. I certainly mind it if you ever curse me, call me an idiot, stupid etc.

If you think that you can't have read me
thanks, I do see, I think. Because I have written for certain audiences my writing reflects that and 99.9% of the time I don't swear in my speech although sometimes I cuss under my breath at stufff I see on Blogit
Many people arround me swear constantly and we respect each other's choice. I have never judged people that way although I can't be bothered reading stuff littered with swearing. Yesterday for example I was talking to an artist whose second word was fuck but what he said was absolutely brilliant - a great analysis of why the public does not appreciate art .
I have no issue with people venting that way if they choose although I won't promise to read.I want to see versatile use of language.
My main point in all of this is that in professional writing, except for dialogue in fiction or reportage, swearing is not generally accepted. I find it easier to be the same across the board - I don't have to try hard to do it. It is the way I am. But because I am that way I am not casting judgements on others

Scriber said it the best. Writing is what we desire to project, at any
given moment. I certainly am a prime example of this as are others here. The writing of writers is just a small part of the "personality picture".

A lot of people try to write in a conversational style, but usually don't
achieve that desired goal. A lot of writing is more stilted, more intellectual, if you will, than their conversation. A writer has the advantage of research at his commant.

im expressing an opinion and clarifying the difference between peoples personalities and the way they type... the way they type doesnt generally attach itself to the way they conduct themselves around others... a thought could be translated into a multitude of swear words, each sprung forth from a separate emotion, it doesnt mean the person is labelled as such compared to their choice of words

if you judge people by the way they write then you dont know much about their personalities.... writing connects with our thoughts, we say what we want to say and sometimes cant say, no restrictions here..... the way we interact with others is different... you cant base judgement at a few swear words...... all the world swears., lets all judge them as filthy and rude

I write the way I talk, but I dont go around swearing when I talk... I consider myself a very polite person, but when you write you're free to say things that will be in your mind... its quite different., you're writing down your thoughts... theres a world of differences

Excellent point. Some are accustomed to thinking of others automatically. Others not. I write as I talk to .. no perhaps I write a little better than I talk.

Beach - I think that for the most part people write the way that they talk.
If they use offensive words in their day to day conversations, they will write them in their blogs. If people are offended by ones verbal conversations they will also be offended by their writing. Self-censorship will not take place because it is the normal way for them.

That small town scenario
sounds like my co-worker writing our newsletter, she has to make nice rather than write that the the teams did dismally. In a sense, self-censorship is self-discipline. I'm sure as heck not going to post everything that comes to mind. Then people might think me fit for the loony bin or WW3.

You can post as often as you like - it's your blog! LOL!
I write the way I talk, mostly. I also don't post on topics that seem to generate a lot of heated debate so everything stays pretty calm around me. Which is good because the rest of my life is like living inside a tornado!
