The one thing that gets me is that people think that blogit is competitive!
I don't care who's #1 or #2 or #9999 in popularity. I write and post to blogit for the sake of writing. I've got 50 years of notes, many of them articles already, to work with, covering everything I've ever studies, and I'd cut down posts to about 100 words, so that I could be on the first 25 new posts practically 24 hours a day. I'd have some 30 blogs, so that my name would be there when anybody looked.
Then there's the comments - they'd be short, almost as empty as many "nice post" ones are, and each would point to a blog or article that complements the post being commented on.
That's if I thought blogit had anything to do with being competitive. It's not. It's, as I've said before, a Zero Sum Game, where nobody really wins.

I should add too
the rankings have NO impact on who I respect.

I think the thing to ask is why you want that? If there is a good reason go for it. For me it is like what Tapsel=T said, I just wanted to know I could do it. Each time I only stayed there a short time - the most was about a fortnight. For me I don't need to "be No.1". It is enough to know I can.
It is useful to compete with yourself to improve your ranking but then so much depends on who is on that day and all that..

I once made it to the top of MPT for, like, an hour. It was glorious. And shortlived. I have never seen hieghts since, and it's probably a good thing. :)

Beach you are so right. I like roofy got a million things on the stove so taking concentrated time to be number one doesn't do it for me. I do so much enjoy reading all the silly battles and tribulations it is funny

Agree totally, Beach, but as Roofpig pointed out, it takes a whole lot of
time and effort and I know I don't have enough spare time for it to go any farther for me. Probably the reason most don't try too.

The current system is based on presenteeism. Heck, most people have too much of that at work.It also means that people who have full lives away from here can't compete. I have been saying we need a different system for ages even when I was No.1. When I was applied extra pressure on myself because I felt I had to do posts that warranted me being there but I'm like that. Bloody ridiculous. No way to live.
I think that it would almost be better if we didn't have Most Popular Today because then people wouldn't focus on that . For the first four months I never looked at MPT. Life was good

I wouldn't mind being in the top position, but I've seen the sorts of things I need to do to get there, and I can't and don't want to do it to get there. I could easily start writing constant posts on bloggers, but I only like to do that occassionally (actually I have one in mind for today). Or I could just keep writing what I've been writing and do it to a larger degree, but between working a full time job and using the rest of my time for writing important things like my books and scripts, that's not going to happen, either.
I wish Shaycom would come up with a system to promote everyone's blogs, a system not based on popularity. I think that would make things a little more even-steven around here.
