Thank you. You know I feel guilty when I hear these stories that I should be doing something but I lack the patience to have loads of kids.

beachbelle, your post was excellent. I can't even begin to imagine the pain and frustration people must go through if they can not have their own children and I deeply admire those who are willing to take on those children who need a home. I too can understand why it is simpler to adopt babies. Having worked with difficult youth, I know what an enormous task it can be to look after older children who have been mistreated.

Good luck with your new blog. I for one would be interested to check it out if you would let us know where to look.

It must be insulting when people ask such questions. You wonder if they think that you handle your responsibilities any differently, as if they you would hand them back when the going gets tough. Of course it is none of their business but I would just say to them that adopted or not the responsibilities towards children remain the same.
Take care

I adopted my children in the states with open adoption - which has stresses of it's own.  One of the birthmothers called after a year of not hearing from her(because she was in legal trouble then dealing with being pregnant again) and I invited her to church with us this morning(She wanted my advice on this single mom stuff, and the best I can do is tell her and show her that for me it is my faith and Christianity).  Anyway, that alerted some fellow  church members that my children are adopted (they are of all different races, but still I guess the idea of adoption doesn't occur to lot's of people).  Any way, tonight at church (no birthmother with us) someone asked if I had 'any children of my own.'  I know what they mean, still, these ARE MY OWN CHILDREN! You don't have to give birth to them for them to be yours.  But sadly, many people don't understand.

I agree it is very sad. I think some countries are better at encouraging people to take on the job. There is something to be said for giving more assistance to people as it is a very selfless thing to do.
From a parent's POV, I can see how much easier it is to take on a baby, even one from a different place.
My grandparents fostered a boy who was about three years older than me. This was when I was a child. He was a lot of trouble. My aunt fostered a boy too. In both cases they faced a enormous challenges and the boys were very wild in their own ways - one dangerously so.

On adoption
People want babies, and when they aren't abundant in the States, they go overseas. Many of them forget that they can be parents to any of the hundreds of thousands of older children currently in the foster care system. I think it's sad that folks are willing to spend thousands upon thousands of dollars trying to adopt a foreign child when there are so many that need homes in the states. But what do I know? I'm not on the market to be parent.

True but some attitudes make it worse than it needs to be

I know I heard it too. But the many good things that happen must not be halted by this.

Recently on the news I heard that there has been an adoption scam between Asia and people adopting children... unknowingly, people have been adopting "stolen" children. ...Best of luck with what you are doing, I'm sure you'll do well.

The world will always be

in a state of imbalance.

There'll always be cherished kids

and lonely kids.

BB, I agree that this is a coming trend. My q. to you is:
How will you advertise your blog?  Can you link to other great ones like Hugh Hewitt or the Minnesota boys, or the California coalition of bloggers?  I would love to do that too, but I could never coninue shouting into the void for long.

I don't yet know. I think that things will be added when they warrant it. But unlike here that will be like a proper web-log, no long essays, just short entries.

Great idea beach, I am sure you will do very well!
The world needs all the help it can get. And with your voice added to it, I feel a little bit more hopeful.

I certainly don't envy you the work, though. Are you going to update it daily, as you do with this blog?
