This forum is an interesting
testing ground for ideas. There's a flexibility that I like and the format helps you to structure what you say. And just by sticking to it you improve. Beach, you and I were in this game early on and I have seen how you have learned to master the form.

Sassyass,
IMHO, anyone in the top 10 must spend too much time here. I have cut back on comments. I have set myself a limit and a goal of staying off the Top 10 comments list. I feel much happier for it

Hundreds of hours?
My house would either fall apart or blow up. In between trying to keep up with my own cleaning business and kids that scenario would never work for me. Once in a blue moon I get time to myself, but it is better spent on more tedious outlets than that of Blogit. Don't get me wrong, I love to write, but it is more of a hobby then a life source. That is good though, because we would starve to death otherwise.

Aaah. So you have a life?
20 hours is only 40 mins per day but it does add up. There are some who spend hundreds of hours.

Great post
I only wish that I had 20 hours per month to spend on just blogging. My earnings have dropped, but only because I have quit posting every single day. I just don't have the time anymore, and if earnings was my only purpose for being here, then I would be in deep crappola.

It is not so much the length of a post which puts me off - it is whether it deserves that length

20 hours per month would be healthy but I think that represents the daily figure for some.
I do agree with you about the showcase. In some cases we can see what not to do.
Often I am very lazy here because I have to be so particular everywhere else

Nice point beachbelle
I think that people can sometimes get carried away with anything they do in life, if they let their perspective fade. Measured by dollars and time Blogit is a fool's bargain, but not all in the world is made up of dollars and time. Some people (myself included) could probably be using our time to more of a point, but personally I would consume myself if I didn't have the reprieves of my life, of which Blogit is one. Glad you stay here, as well

I have often described opportunity cost here but people's eyes glaze over. I was a student of economics although not without struggle. To be honest the only measures I apply here are the intangibles

Is that 20 hours a MONTH?
Actually, although blogit is not a place to earn money, it is a good showcase for what people can do in the writing field.
And one of the important aspects of writing is not just getting the grammar and spelling right, but also recognising that communications, especially in writing, depend on structure (something many blog articles lack). One has to be creative within the structure to be able to communicate, and to be creative, one needs to know the limitations of the structure intimately.
Maybe that's why so many kids think they can write - none of their teachers ever learned the way to structure poetry, novel;s, short stories, reports, articles and so on....

Beach,
If Bloging took time away from my kids, or other important things in my life I would leave in a second. As long as I'm still enjoying myself and learning something (as I do when I read your blog) I'll hang around.

You've introduced us in layman's language to what is commonly known as 'opportunity cost' in Economics. I agree that the intangibles - such as the time we could have spent doing something else, or the benefit of a blogger giving us a new idea is never considered when we take stock of the costs and benefits of blogging.

And even in your meandering...
I still learned something. I use Blogit as a forum in which I can practise, however, it has it's limitations. Not everyone is going to be thrilled to sit down to read a whole article. Mostly, people seem interested in light stuff.

There are people who spend 20 hours on Blogit! Shoot them! They must
be ill. Haven't been here much lately and haven't been able to read much with moving and working so much now - but the earnings have stayed steady--whcih ain't saying all that much, y'know?
