nth, in this blog I wrote "writing is the synthesis of the writing process".  I should have written, writing in the synthesis of the learning process.  Learning to read requires writing or, as MandyLee pointed out to me, some form of expressive literacy, for physically challenged people who cannot hold a pencil.  That would be talking about it, singing, about it, drawing, acting it out, etc.

KlaraRoberts, Thank you! And it gets worse every year.
I can only keep my students in the stream of learning, and hope to influence other teachers to rely on traditional methods only as far as they make sense.

Yes, it is a problem, just as you've described it, kingmi. It's a shame.
I have the utmost respect for those that keep trying despite the overwhelming odds.

Klara, it is a workout! I've been out of hs for 23 years. Never going
back!  It is so too late for the ones who really need you, and for those who don't, well, they don't need you!  I love middle school-ers.  They love to learn and thay still have the chance!

I see firsthand how difficult teaching is, kingmi. The people I have here
are both high school teachers in inner city schools, so they get a daily workout of patience, stress, and panic, all rolled into one. Plus, they actually touch a child's mind in the process. Not a bad daily practice, if you ask me.

We learn from each other, kingmi. They have opened my eyes many times.
It takes a very strong person to be a good teacher, and this is one profession that is underrated.

And writing is about self-actualization, kingmi. Great post.
I have two teachers who are great writers here, and being a great writer, has made them better teachers!

Kingmi
This is at the heart of writing and its future.
Perhaps your supervisor knows.
