- Go to I Don't Buy That Blogger vs Writer BS
Klara,
This is not to suggest that a blogger is less of a writer. There were some suggestions that there are two grades of people here - writers and bloggers. All of us are bloggers no matter what else we are, how well we do, or how we regard ourselves. Like writers, plumbers, chefs, teachers there are good bloggers and bad bloggers.

We are all more than one thing in life, Beachie. But some things we are
"more of" in our minds than others. I personally, consider myself a "writer that blogs", rather than a "blogger that writes". I think that is because I have a slightly different purpose than others maybe for being on here. Writing has been around as long as humanity. Blogging has not. So historically, everyone here could've been a writer long before blogs even came into existence. Blogs overall, are a lot like forums. I would never refer to myself as a "forum member" although I do belong to forums. Personally, if I referred to myself as a blogger, my family and friends would think I was "daffy as a taffy".

Scriber. Hi
I was not making the same argument as Shaycom. I was not agreeing necessarily. I I merely said that I understand the point they made and I sought further clarification of yours. I will give it some thought and give you my opinion.

Beach, Shaycom's argument was much like yours. Writing is writing...
Them why have any categories at all? Maybe I should have asked for a "Serious Writing" category, since surely all writing on Blogit isn't serious. It's like posting writing vs ass pictures, or pictures of writers or bloggers...Are pictures considered writing?
Are lists considered writing; or copy and paste?
Where would one post a non-fiction novel on life, philosophy, murder, sex and the city?

Scriber. I saw that in Community. I saw the Shaycom comment about all blogs
being writing. I understood what they said even if is seemed nebulous. But I am not clear what you were after.
What were you seeking and why? Fill me in.

I asked for a separate category, "Writing" since "On Writing" is for
subjects about writing, I was told by Taycom. They further thought that all categories are "writing" hence no need for a "Writing" category. I disagreed but still moved my writing to "Fiction."

I am usually both at once just as I am blogger and writer.

I'm with you on this one...
but I still maintain that there is a difference between travellers and tourists....tourists are ethnocentric, generally condesending and superficial...travellers are not...

Beachy,
I think I was guilty of saying this a couple of times. I think when I first started writing here I looked down on blogging. But some of the most successful bloggers like Wonkette, draw a big group of readers.

Great post
I for one admit to being proud of being a blogger. I have learned so much about writing since joining Blogit and I have never once been ashamed of it.

Amateur,
I was referring to the notion doing the rounds that those who post good stuff are writers while those who post junk are bloggers. No such distinction can be made. Anyone who posts to a web-log is a blogger.

I agree that on this platform we are bloggers at the end of the day, regardless of what we do for a living. To me, there is no fundamental difference between writing and blogging... aren't we still doing the same thing - communicating our ideas through the written word?

Talion. Bloggers post web-logs
The content, quality and intention are entirely separate issues. Some people write with honest intentions, others not. Many of us use it as a forum for writing. But ultimately we are still bloggers - people who post web-logs.

It's all defined by the percieved intent. If there is an honest attempt to convey some information, some message, even something as "mundane" as what a person had for breakfast and why, then it's writing. When there's absolutely nothing there but an "a-ha, fooled you" attempt to get a click, then it's not snobbery when it invokes my ire. I'm not expecting Pulitzer prize worthy content and I sincerely hope no one else expects it from me. I realize not all blogs/posts are meant for me and I will often miss the boat, but there had better be a boat for me to miss, or else I'm standing on the dock wasting my time.
