I like this post very much
The statement that when you stopped focusing on money, you became free is such an inspiration.  Isn't it so true as well.  How many times must I hear this message before it's driven home to me?  It always serves to give me pause for thought.

Of course, I wanna know what your motivation is...

The moment I stopped focusing on money I became free.

That thought is so profound for me  BB, because I am preoccupied with money.  However, that may be because of the state of our economy.  I really need to try to free myself from my worries about money.   Other people have a lot less than I do and they survive.

I agree though that you have to draw the line somewhere.  If you write for money, then there is no way that you should be asked to give away for free what you ought to be charging for in a commercial setting.

I only feel the need to write
is directly out of a love for it and habit. I do feel that if you stop doing it and then resume that it will take you some time to get back on track again. A small break is alright from time to time.

I think that this attitude developed over some years so it does not feel like a "seachange". Part of it is the feeling within me that miserly behavior has bad consequences.
Obviously we put some money aside in order to get re-established and it is my strong desire not to empty that pot.
Of course husband is completely different and feels less relaxed than me. At the moment I am making money and he isn't and I can't help feeling that stressing about it is impacting on his ability to make money

Beachbelle,

This sounds like you've made a profound "Seachange", indeed, in your approach if you can let go of the worry about money. That's a tough one, , and it definitely shows the strength of your convictions and your motivations, whatever they may be.

Yes, I do have to write... but I NEED money and lust for popularity... the latter being a deadly sin...but I try to remember... "seek ye' first the Kingdom of God and all these things shall be yours as well."  I don't think Jesus was a liar so I can relax in my creative process... there is great freedom in that... taking out my big ego.

Really. Who is the author? You'd be surprised how many books have that title.

One of my favorite books is "Your Money or Your Life". It expresses an approach to money that is similar to yours.

Maybe once or twice here, too.

Although, I don't think anyone noticed!

It is, Beachbelle...
And somehow, Blogging is better than writing in a journal or something like that.  It gives me a bit of validation because other people can respond, and make me feel worthy of more than changing diapers and cooking dinner on the days where I feel like that really is who I am...

I admire your passion for integrity. We have to appreciate of course that what one person regards as being driven by marketing another will applaud as good writing. This is very subjective and no one is necessarily write but we all have our opinions

A marketing exercize is not only about money. It is about conveying an image and finding a voice to do so. But for many writers such concerns are not always paramount.

No it's not silly to vent, relax, express yourself. Somehow we have to either ensure it is also productive or balance it with productice addictive.

I'd definitely like to hear more about it...
And, I also have a need to write.  For me, it's not about money.  I write for myself more than anything else.  It's a release for me, that reminds me aside from mother and wife, I am something and someone who has thoughts and ideas all her own.

Of course I'd like to hear about it, and I'm not here for the money either.

I'm here to learn, get through lonley days, maybe say a word that might help somebody else, just because I've lived long enough to know a few things.

Have a wonderful week girl

Anybody who has chosen an activity as his business
must make some money out it; money is the necessary mean of exchange in our society; you didn't get money from any of your activity, then, unless you have it alrady, you would go far.... writing, thinking... fine... what if all that will not bring to you the basic survival?

That old saying about money being the root of all evil -- I've seen more nastiness and suchlike over that then anything else in the world, save for religion or politics. And it hellish when you don't have any. Nowdays, I'm just grateful for meals and a place to sleep.

I never worry about Blogit money
I actually maintain a real job that pays the bills. This is my writers workshop of sorts. The money I make here still blows me away. I can't believe that I actually get paid when I am so inexperienced at writing.

I am clearly not here for the money,
but I have discovered that I am becoming a better writer, as evidenced by my recent small success. Also I am inspired here. I write for myself here, but often that writing warms me up for other writing that I am doing. I would love to hear your motivations Beach.

Anyone who wants to write on here for the purpose of saying something, reading something as is the thing writers do needs to be responsible. This competition junk leaves a lot of good material unread. It leaves all too vulnerable who can not guarantee continued popularity. No one can. Personally I don't want to be read because someone likes me but that they like what I write; the reverse is that people bring in their feelings and leave ugly comments or worse do pathetic posts because they differ with you. Good writing and reading are subject to critisiam, but not butchery of both message and messenger. Good business requires integrity. I will read a bloggers material again  far more frequently if I detect writing over marketing, sincerity over top billing and most importantly strength over insecurity.

Yes, I would very much appreciate reading about your motivations. The money or rankings have never mattered too much to me; the feedback can be educational and strongly motivating, no need and no way to place a monetary value on that. I've also used some of my meager earnings here to purchase the works of other bloggers - I highly recommend the "Untold"...awesome work.

I'd love to hear about the motivations, Beach.
I don't even know at this point how much I've earned here myself, or if I've even earned anything. This is the truth. The marketers here, myself included, feel the investment of time here, is a marketing experience that is well worth the effort. I have reasons also of my own, outside of what it all seems. Marketing overall is an investment of one's own time and money all the time. It's rarely measured simply by monetary values. I'd be avidly waiting for your motivations, as I love to compare my own take on things with others all the time. Every experience for me is learning experience, and I've learned a lot from you already, and from others here.

Ofcourse I am interested
in the things you say. Always. I can not stop writing. I am addicted to it. I need to focus my time on more productive writing, but I need the space I've created here to vent, relax, express myself, etc. Maybe that's silly. ?
