The abrupt mood changes do sound typical of a rapid cycling bipolar disorder, although the hallucinations aren't typical with bipolar. You might also ask your psychiatrist about schizoaffective disorder, which has the symptoms of bipolar (with the mood changes) as well as symptoms of schizophrenia (with hallucinations and delusions). Its one of the most common mental illnesses out there, although it could be any number of things.

I have been living with a family member who either has bipolar disorder or schizoaffective disorder (the doctors still aren't sure after ten years). I would be more than happy to talk with you.
