saul, the word is, that to admit that you have AIDS in Africa means that
you are either a whore or homosexual, not much of a choice. So, in ignorance, not wanting to be labelled whore nor homosexual, they could not possibly have it, right? This thought pattern is all over Africa, not just in Togo. AND, if you insist on using condoms, your partner then believes that you have AIDS or they believe that you believe that they have it and so, you don't use them. Simple cultural politeness.....and death.
