Re:
mariposa75, yes, they harrass at the border about medicines, but they are able to be brought across and I do. Our family also buys antibiotics and saves on doctor's visits.

American dentists charge obscene prices and all Americans' teeth are deteriorating more than I have ever seen them in my life. My family goes to Mexico for dental work, too. My DIL just went south of Yuma and had a root canal and a crown put over the tooth, all for $350. HEre that would have been over $2,000 obscene dollars.

About buying medicines:  We usually like to buy several antibiotics when we come back to the states.  If one of our kids get sick and it's pretty certain they need antibiotics, I give them some instead of going to the doctor.  If I must go to the doctor, I will, but it is very expensive.  Now, when crossing into the USA, they don't want you to buy medicines.  They don't have it written anywhere that you can't, but they ask if you have any.

As for the dentist, my sister needs a lot of dental work and so do her kids.  They do not have insurance, so their teeth are getting worse and worse.  I am hoping to bring them down sometime to get some dental work done.  It is a lot of $ to travel, but it might be worth it for her.

I forgot to say, Wiley, that Americans are now debating about "Guest

Worker" status for migrants. We used to have a Bracero program, where they came up, worked and went home, unless they fell helplessly in love with an American, married and stayed or were too ill to return for awhile.  When that ended and the borders tightened because of escalating American drug importation and usage, it became difficult to return to Mexico and come up again to return to migratory work, so they had to stay here, or more of them felt that this was so and it usually was. American drug usage started the whole 'migrating peoples' problem here. Sigh.

People are against the Guest Worker idea, because Mexicans would pay taxes and have no benefits from it....no Social Security, no refunds, etc. as far as I understand it.  Others are for it because of the very same reasons and others, I suspect. Must investigate that more.

So many sides to this problem....so much prejudice, Proposition 200,  born in Arizona, well not really, but voted in here, being its worst manifestation within the century. At least four or so other states are working on adopting this vile legislation. I am discouraged, we used to get along and use each other well, or better and let each other go on with life. Now everything is confrontative. Sigh.

Americans despise being fingerprinted when in customs offices in other countries upon their arrival, but casually accept that we have begun to fingerprint every Mexican border crosser in more and more cities along our borders. Sigh, what goes around, comes around.

ca88andra, thanks for searching out my new blog and for commenting so
nicely. I have my facts a little wrong about the fellow that was shot, as I learned yesterday when I looked up the story, but, essentially, it tells that he was shot for no reason and is being paid for that pain and suffering by American taxpayers who should want better control over their border patrol agents, better people, more professional and better trained.

Abuleita

That is such a sad state of affairs, and you write from your heart and soul about it.

Didn't your president promise to do something to alleviate that situation when he was running for office or am I dreaming in technicolour?

Also Abuleita, if a person wanted to assist financially with that, is there and organization to help thos Mexican peoples? Let me know luv.
