- Go to Dear Christa,
Yes he was smart enough not to try to train her, and let her train him.

I have to agree, she was and still is awesome (her greatness lives on in your memories you share with us)! I would think that her handler had something to do with her being so.

Christa won her share of trophies anyway. She was USPCA Region 2 champion 1992 and 1993, Region 6 champion 1992,93,94,95, Region 7 champion 1993, and National champion 1993,94. Those are USPCA police dog trials in which dogs compete in obedience, agility, scent work, and bitework. In 1993 Christa not only won every trial she entered she won every category of every trial she entered. If you look at my Pets blog there is a picture of her with the first four trophies that she ever won. She was awesome.

Not all units do it. Ours does not. Normally the awards are replicated so that both may have a copy.

The emotion in your posts here
is overwhelming. It really touches me.
btw, I've been meaning to ask you; recently they had somewhat of an 'awards banquet' for the K-9 unit here. They honored many police dogs and their handlers. I assume that this is something that all units do? Also, who gets to keep the awards-do they go with the handler and his dog or do those stay at the station to be put on display?

Ok - I wanna come back as one of your dogs - that sounds really bad -
I'd be your bitch then wouldn't I?
Hm...let me rethink this.

I've seen some dog owners and don't want to come back as a dog! For every Christa, Kelly, Maisy, Thumper etc there is a stray somewhere, or a dog being abused.

Poet,
Thank you. But Christa deserves the credit for this story, without her it may never have been told.

Well, I'm sure that when such a loyal companion reaches Heaven, they won't be a dog anymore. That definitely deserves a promotion.
