Other Perspectives

RD Laing wrote a lot of interesting case studies in schizophrenia and himself had been through psychosis.  I'd recommend "The Divided Self".  This was back in the day before everything was attributed to genetics and medication and he believed in giving people a safe place to work out the dramas unfolding.

I've been through manic psychosis  (I don't begin to consider myself an expert) but in my travels through psych wards, jail, and other encounters with people with schizoaffective disorders like us, everyone was on a spiritual quest, and a quest for healing from childhood trauma, so it is not all about chemicals and genes, but a much more holistic picture.  Ancient peoples considered psychosis a form of divine inspiration.

Yeah, I imagine that's true. Also, the key is to not dwell too much on the
limitations that present themselves because of the disorder, but to concentrate on getting well and thinking the best thoughts possible.

Disorders
One fact that really helped me handle the news was the fact that pretty much everyone has some disorder. 1 percent of the population will suffer from some form of schizophrenia in their life. That's 1 in a hundred. It really helps to not feel alone.

Wow, this is fascinating...I was going to be a shrink at one time, so I'm

always drawn in by stories like this.  You're taking the news quite well, even though I'm sure it bothers you.  You should be proud for being brave and taking that step to go to the doctors and etc.

I'll be reading this faithfully.

I have Histrionic Personality Disorder (according to an online therapist)
