Reading about things like this also gives me asense of pride about my country and the people who reside in it. It would be great if all of mankind could behave in this manner. Great post.

The explosive was the jet fuel on board. They chose transatlantic flights because they knew that they would be loaded with fuel. Jet fuel burns HOT and LONG. Some of the fires burned for months! No explosives other than the fuel was needed, but that was one of my first questions to the experts that I met there.

Canine,
You said something interesting, that you and your crew were wondering how 2 planes could have caused so much damage. In your opinon, do you think that the devastation could have been caused by the planes or were there explosives as well?

Canine, very well told. I had my epiphany
while serving overseas during the cold war. Up to then I just described myself as Norwegian. Excellent story, thank you.

Mary,
I am very proud of what I did. I'm also a realist. There are so many who did so much more that my small efforts pale in comparison. I was honored to be in their company.

Canine,
Witnessing and supporting are essential parts of the healing process. While you may not feel like a hero compared to someone else, just showing up and being part of the cleanup process may have given courage to someone you don't even know, just by showing you care. It's one thing to make a decision and follow through in the heat of the moment, it's something else to face the aftermath and both take courage. I applaud you.

Hollee,
Thank you for reading AGAIN! This one is not about comments though, I just wanted to let people know. I read anti-war crap everyday. I don't care whether W. lied or not, those are our sons over there, and until they're home they need to know that we are there with them. That's as political as anyone around here will ever hear me get.

Thank you for that. But I was just doing my job. The cops and firemen who ran into those buildings to save lives without thinking about their own are my heroes. David Marsh and countless others who began searching without being called upon are the special ones.

canine - you've brought tears to my eyes. Reading your post I was thinking that I too was born in America and my parents both came from Europe. Although we all spoke English, my mother and her parents conversed in Russian. I was brought up in the religion of another country and the traditions of Europe. But, even after living in Australia most of my life, I still feel more American than anything else.

I know that, Canine. I understand. It is almost as if I offended you
by what I said because what others did or went through was so horrible. But, it doesn't make your being there to help meaningless.

I did nothing! 321 firemen died there, another 128 cops. They are the heroes. David, John and Juan are heroes.
