Westwend -
We're on the same page. Hell is all around us. It's a state of being. We live in it until we figure out how to move toward "heaven".

West, you've basically stated everything I've researched in the past year or so, so all I can do is agree.

I find myself coming closer and closer to the conclusion that a God who can look at me when I die and say, "You led a good life - you helped people, you set a good example, you weren't selfish... buuuuuut you didn't believe what all the Christians told you to believe, so I'm going to have to send you to hell." If that's the kind of God He is, then I accept my fate in hell - even though I don't believe it exists.

westwend, hell is reserved for the devil and the demons...how is it

possible that a loving God will destroy anyone in hell?  Perhaps that is the ONLY way sin can finally be destroyed and eradicated once and for all from the universe.  Also, when God said don't eat from the tree, He meant it.  How serious was He?  Serious enough to cast Adam and Eve out of the garden.  Noah warned people to get on the boat.  How serious was this issue?  So serious that only those who got on the boat survived.  On and on I could quote examples of the seriousness of God's commands.

Love and sin cannot live together throughout eternity.  God doesn't have it in for sinners, just sin.  He cannot dwell with sin.  He will destroy sin and anything or anyone who clings to it.  Perhaps this is one of those issues that humans will never fully grasp.  There is no hell right now.  That comes later.
