I'm glad that story didn;t end in tragedy...
I agree, no one at home should teach their dogs to be aggressive or to bite. You just never know when an accident will happen.

Angel
Thanks for reading. Everybody was fine, though Carmen was a bit angry at Eddy and I.

Thanks Ariala. There is nothing worse than locusts to ruin a perfectly good day.

Hollee, I'm very sorry I didn't see your first comment. It was a simple oversight on my part. It was a very witty comment and I should be ashamed of myself. (canine hits self) I promise it will never happen again.

Try ice cubes! Dogs love 'em and no calories. Now show him whose boss.

Canine, I cannot thank you enough for lending an ear and advice regarding

dawg.  He was much better yesterday!  I figure if dogs can sense fear, then they can also sense frustration, that they are gaining the upper hand?

His favorite snack would be cookies, but I am under orders that cookies are out, carrots are in.  Sometimes, he just spits the carrots out and looks at me.

I bought a hairbrush at the store yesterday, with boar's hair bristles, and found he likes to be brushed.  So after our awful spat, we have made up.  He still tries to manipulate, but I am learning how to deal with it.  Owner laughed at me...the Rat Bastard!

Thanks though, because that one day was just an all-day nightmare!

Warmest wishes!

Whammie

Anyone can teach any dog anything they want if they have patience and employ love, especially a pit. Pit's are extremely smart dogs.

That makes you a friend of mine. Anyone who gives their home to their dogs is ok with me.

Quirky
I know what you mean. Rocky the boxer born to fight, but hasn't a mean bone in his body. He was a very special dog.

Canine,
Good story! Poor Rocky, he just wants to be a lover, not a fighter. Just like my own Rocky (a cat).

I love your dog stories!  But then that comes as no surprise seeing as I live in a home ruled by dogs.

I'm glad everything turned out okay! I'll certainly heed your lesson on not teaching my Rusty-Bear to bite.  But since I can't seem to teach him anything that shouldn't be a problem.

Frankenkitty
We NEVER dominate our police dogs. That would make it possible for others to dominate them. Don't want that! K-9 rules the roost, we simply let them know that there are still rules that must be observed. They are like children not slaves and believe me they love it as much as we do.

I can respect obedience training,
and I understand the usefulness of trained dogs... but it still makes me feel bad for the dogs. I don't know why. I even feel bad for horses. I guess it's hard for me to understand that dogs need to be dominated or they can not be part of a human family. It is the nature of dogs to need a pecking order. Being a neurotic human being, sometimes simple concepts escape my grasp. Glad nobody was hurt. Take care.

Thumper wouldn't bite if his life depended on it - or you had a cookie in

your hand. Boy-Kitty? He bites big time.

Great post.

Taps,
We spent the next five months teaching Rocky NEVER to bite again. Sadly Rocky passed away about a year ago, but he was a good dog. So sweet!

Canine - So what happened with Rocky? Did you teach him recall?
